7 breakfast spots in Karuizawa that are worth getting up early for

Whether you're starting your trip or the morning after a stay at a hotel, breakfast is a fun way to enjoy something different from the usual. Karuizawa has many restaurants that are popular for breakfast or have breakfast menus, and many of them are so popular that they have to queue up. Here are some recommended breakfasts to make your refreshing mornings in Karuizawa even more enjoyable.
1Natural Cafeina
Enjoy a healthy breakfast at a natural cafe in Kyukaruizawa

A popular cafe located at Shinonome intersection in the Kyu-Karuizawa area. They serve breakfast from 7am on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Their signature dish is the "Super Acai Bowl," topped with plenty of fresh fruits such as mango and blueberries. Brazilian acai is mixed with mango, banana, soy milk, and more for a smooth texture. For those who want a hearty breakfast, we recommend the "Karuizawa French Toast." It's a hearty dish that can be enjoyed with sausages and omelets.
We also recommend the specialty coffee carefully selected by the owner.

The interior of the shop, with its woody decor, has an atmosphere reminiscent of a tropical rainforest in Central and South America. This is a reproduction of the owner's favorite scenery from his travels around the world, including Brazil and Asian countries. In this natural atmosphere, you can enjoy your breakfast with a cup of carefully selected coffee. The owner carefully selects specialty coffee from Ethiopia, Kenya, El Salvador, and other countries, and brews it in a French press. Close your eyes and enjoy the unique aroma and sweet aftertaste.

4Boulangerie Asanoya Old Road Main Branch

Located on Kyu-Karuizawa Ginza Street, this extremely popular shop is famous for its freshly baked bread in a stone oven. It is also popular as a breakfast Restaurant until 11am.
A popular morning menu item is the "Shinshu Rye Galette." In French, galette means "round baked dish," and while buckwheat flour is often used, Asanoya uses rye flour, which gives off a rich rye flavor. It is recommended to eat it with the yolk of a soft-boiled egg crumbled. Onion soup, bread, and a drink are also included in the set.
Croque monsieur, a croissant topped with two types of cheese and white sauce, is also popular. The specialty beef stew is also available from the morning.
Eat freshly bought bread in the restaurant

If you order a drink, you can bring in what you buy from the bread corner and eat it there. Larger breads like baguettes and country breads are sliced and lightly toasted in a stone oven. Any leftovers can be bagged and taken home. In addition to Restaurant space, there is also a place where you can sit and relax.

5Sheridan

The name of the cafe comes from Sheridan Road, a road that runs along Lake Michigan in Chicago. The owner fell in love with Chicago breakfasts during a trip there, and as Karuizawa's climate and environment are similar, he decided to open a Chicago-style breakfast and brunch cafe.
Salmon omelette is also a Chicago-style dish. Made with whipped eggs, it is a fluffy omelette with cream cheese and smoked salmon beautifully arranged on top. When eaten together, it is a dish that allows you to enjoy the richness and umami of the dish.
A meticulously designed green landscape

The interior is modeled after a casual American diner. The windows have been carefully designed so that you can enjoy the beautiful greenery outside from any seat. They also offer classic Chicago-style pancakes and Dutch pancakes called "panekukken," so you can enjoy an American-style breakfast.

6Mikuriya

Hotaru no Sato is located in Karuizawa, a place with a tranquil rural landscape. It is a large restaurant built in a spacious house facing a rural mountain area. The restaurant's main dish is white rice made from Nagano brand Gorobei rice, grown on the restaurant's own farm and cooked in a large stove. The "Morning Rice Ball Set" includes rice balls with sesame salt and chopped plum, grilled salmon, kinpira burdock, yudofu, pork miso soup, and pickles. The softly pressed rice balls are the perfect way to enjoy the rice, cooked to bring out the grains. The miso and pickles in the pork miso soup set are homemade, and the yudofu is made with tofu from a local tofu shop. Other dishes available include a "Raw egg on rice set" and a "Morning grated yam soup set."
Enjoying a meal in a Japanese country house

The large, solid house makes you feel like you're visiting a farm in Shinshu. The main attraction is the hearth set up in the center. There is a large rice cooker at the entrance to the kitchen, and you can relax and dine on the tatami room or veranda. In summer, there is seating on the veranda, and pets are allowed. They also sell ingredients unique to Nagano, such as home-grown rice, home-made miso, and oyaki, so they make great souvenirs.

7Osatate Sabo

This long-established coffee shop has been operating in the same place since it first opened. Even before the breakfast boom, their breakfast set, called the "Good Morning Service," was very popular. The menu is very simple: ham and eggs, toast, salad, and coffee. As the owner has been making the toast himself since the shop opened, the toast is of perfect thickness and doneness. Two fried eggs are served with lightly grilled ham. The salad, made with local lettuce, is highly rated for its homemade soy sauce dressing.
Retro mountain cabin-style interior

Although the restaurant has been renovated once since it first opened, the log cabin-style interior is decorated with the owner's favorite items and souvenirs from regular customers, giving it a nostalgic atmosphere. Outside the windows is a lush landscape, and you can enjoy your breakfast on the log terrace while soaking up the morning air.
The warm personalities of the owners make it easy to see why they have so many regular customers.
