Located in the same "Forêt de Muse" as the "Erzgitter's Toy Museum Karuizawa", this museum specializes in picture books. It mainly exhibits Western picture books, as well as precious original drawings and first editions that are one of a kind in the world. The first exhibition hall, which resembles a wooden log cabin, features "The History of Western Picture Books" and the "Yoshida Shinichi Library", which tell the history of picture books around the world, while the second exhibition hall holds seasonal special exhibitions. The third exhibition hall also has a permanent exhibition of Peter Rabbit.

Picchio means woodpecker in Italian. With the desire to preserve a rich forest where woodpeckers can live, we hold nature tours and day camps in the national "Karuizawa Wild Bird Sanctuary" adjacent to the Hoshino area of Nakakaruizawa.

"Wild Bird Forest Nature Watching" is held every day throughout the year. Even preschoolers can participate if accompanied by a guardian (there is no age limit), and many children participate every year. Other popular activities include day camps for elementary school students and river trekking.

Aiming for coexistence between humans and bears, they have been conducting bear behavior surveys and using bear dogs (dogs to protect bears) since 1998. In order to let children know about these activities, they also hold a "Children's Internship Experience Working in Bear Protection" for 3rd to 6th grade elementary school students. They can learn about coexistence with wild animals while having fun. Tsuchiya Horse Riding Club, located about a nine-minute walk from Nakakaruizawa Station, offers Experience for beginners from the fourth grade of elementary school, as well as lessons for advanced riders.

In addition to courses within the riding arena, we recommend the casual "Interaction Course" for those new to horse riding. Staff/staff member will lead the horse around the outside of the arena for about 15 to 20 minutes, so even small children can Experience horse riding by themselves if they are strong enough to hold on. Adults can also hold the horse while riding.

In the riding arena, there are horse riding lessons (45 minutes) for beginners, and lessons that experienced riders can enjoy freely. For experienced riders, they will flexibly accommodate depending on the level, but riding too hard can cause injury and is at your own risk, so please follow the instructions of Staff/staff member and enjoy riding safely.

Yukawa Furusato Park boasts a vast area. As a town park, admission and Parking are free, making it a popular spot for families with children. The park is divided into an upstream area, a conservation area, a center area, and a downstream area along the Yukawa River, and the center area has a large combination playground with a variety of play equipment. This tourist farm in Kitakaruizawa is a vast 49,000m2 farm where more than 50 kinds of crops are grown. You can pick and eat any of the crops in the farm, including vegetables and fruits. There is no time limit, so you can stroll through the vast farm at your leisure and search for the seasonal flavors you're looking for. Another nice feature is that there is a rest area in the shade of the trees in the farm.
