Have fun at a waterfront resort

5Karuizawa Picture Book Museum

Nostalgic Picture Book Museum

Located in the same "Forêt de Muse" as the "Erzgitter's Toy Museum Karuizawa", this museum specializes in picture books. It mainly exhibits Western picture books, as well as precious original drawings and first editions that are one of a kind in the world. The first exhibition hall, which resembles a wooden log cabin, features "The History of Western Picture Books" and the "Yoshida Shinichi Library", which tell the history of picture books around the world, while the second exhibition hall holds seasonal special exhibitions. The third exhibition hall also has a permanent exhibition of Peter Rabbit.

6Erz Toy Museum, Karuizawa

Be comforted by traditional wooden toys from the Erzgebirge region of Germany

The Erzgebirge region of Germany, near the border with the Czech Republic, is a town of wooden toys with over 300 years of history. Even now, there are about 150 small workshops where master craftsmen handcraft nutcrackers, pipe dolls, Christmas pyramids, miniature angels, and more. This museum is a collection of wooden toys that are alive with that history and culture. In the fall and winter, a Christmas-themed wooden toy exhibition is held, allowing you to immerse yourself in the world of Christmas filled with the warmth of wood.

You can enjoy the "Karuizawa Kogen Strawberry" harvesting Experience all year round

This tourist farm is located in the Hotchi area, about a 15-minute drive from Karuizawa Station. You can enjoy strawberry picking all year round. In a vast 5,400m2 vinyl greenhouse overlooking Mount Asama, about 33,000 winter strawberries and 13,000 summer strawberries are cultivated. The special strawberries grown at Karuizawa Garden Farm, located at an altitude of 1,000m, are known as "Karuizawa Kogen Ichigo". Experience the great outdoors of Karuizawa on a nature tour that parents and children can enjoy together

Picchio means woodpecker in Italian. With the desire to preserve a rich forest where woodpeckers can live, we hold nature tours and day camps in the national "Karuizawa Wild Bird Sanctuary" adjacent to the Hoshino area of Nakakaruizawa.

"Wild Bird Forest Nature Watching" is held every day throughout the year. Even preschoolers can participate if accompanied by a guardian (there is no age limit), and many children participate every year. Other popular activities include day camps for elementary school students and river trekking.

Plenty of Activity for kids during the summer holidays

There are various tours available for different age groups, so you can choose a tour that suits your child's age.
For example, the "Explore! My First Forest" and "Explore! My First River" programs are aimed at families with children aged 3 to 6, and support children's first natural Experience. What is a forest? What creatures live in a river? You can have fun interacting with nature in the form of a quiz.
"Picchio Children's Adventure Club" is a nature Experience program for elementary school children. 10Tsuchiya Horse Riding Club

There are courses that are safe for small children too.

Tsuchiya Horse Riding Club, located about a nine-minute walk from Nakakaruizawa Station, offers Experience for beginners from the fourth grade of elementary school, as well as lessons for advanced riders.

In addition to courses within the riding arena, we recommend the casual "Interaction Course" for those new to horse riding. Staff/staff member will lead the horse around the outside of the arena for about 15 to 20 minutes, so even small children can Experience horse riding by themselves if they are strong enough to hold on. Adults can also hold the horse while riding.

Horseback riding with a view of Mount Asama

In the riding arena, there are horse riding lessons (45 minutes) for beginners, and lessons that experienced riders can enjoy freely. For experienced riders, they will flexibly accommodate depending on the level, but riding too hard can cause injury and is at your own risk, so please follow the instructions of Staff/staff member and enjoy riding safely.

11Yukawa Hometown Park

A park filled with play equipment and grass where you can play freely

Yukawa Furusato Park boasts a vast area. As a town park, admission and Parking are free, making it a popular spot for families with children. The park is divided into an upstream area, a conservation area, a center area, and a downstream area along the Yukawa River, and the center area has a large combination playground with a variety of play equipment. Have fun moving your body to your heart's content on the tube slide, Tarzan rope, swings, and tightrope walking. There is also a dog run and a sports field where you can enjoy futsal, and you can also enjoy a view of the Hokuriku Shinkansen train passing by on the nearby elevated track.

Take a stroll along the lush green walking paths

Across the street from Parking in the Center District, in the conservation area, there is a lush nature trail. It takes about 15 minutes to walk there at a leisurely pace. 12Usui Pass Railway Culture Park

An Experience railway theme park that conveys the history of the former Usui Line

This Experience-on theme park is sure to satisfy children who love trains. You can try out a variety of Experience while learning about the history of the Usui Line, which ran between Yokokawa and Karuizawa and was closed in 1997. The first thing to note is the many precious vehicles on display in the park. The lineup is sure to impress even adult train fans, including the D51 steam locomotive, the EF63 direct current electric locomotive, and the 189 series Asama express train. The Railway Museum also displays a railway diorama of the Usui Pass. You can even Experience operating an HO gauge model train.

Driving simulators for trolley trains and electric locomotives are also popular.

We recommend the trolley train "Sherpa-kun" for families with children. It uses the outbound track of the former Usui Line and takes you on a short 20-minute trip to the nearby day-trip hot spring Property, Usui Pass Forest Park Community Center "Toge no Yu." Inside the park, you can also ride the steam locomotive "Green Breeze" and the diesel car "Aputo-kun," which run around a track of about 800 meters. A science museum for children where they can learn and play

This popular science museum in Saku City has exhibits that you can see, touch, and Experience. Even beginners can enjoy a walk in the forest.

Makiba Karuizawa is Activity spot where you can enjoy horse riding. Horses that have been raised on the vast land of Hokkaido spend their time in the same pasture. There are many docile and docile horses classified as intermediate breeds, so it is perfect for beginners to enjoy horse riding.

16Ishida Tourist Farm

Experience harvesting seasonal produce

This tourist farm in Kitakaruizawa is a vast 49,000m2 farm where more than 50 kinds of crops are grown. You can pick and eat any of the crops in the farm, including vegetables and fruits. There is no time limit, so you can stroll through the vast farm at your leisure and search for the seasonal flavors you're looking for. Another nice feature is that there is a rest area in the shade of the trees in the farm.
Salt is provided for dipping the vegetables in, but if you want to try different flavors you can bring your own mayonnaise, miso, etc. Many repeat visitors bring their favorite seasonings with them when they go Experience.

Harvesting Experience are available for four months each year, from mid-July to mid-November.
