The French Restaurant Domaine de Mikuni, run by Kiyomi Mikuni, left Karuizawa and opened in January 2024 on the site. "I want people to enjoy Italian cuisine in a casual atmosphere without feeling pressured. Children are welcome, too," says the owner. The special French fries, developed for children to enjoy, are said to be very popular with adults too.

2Yusuge
Enjoy delicious unaju and Shinshu river fish dishes with your family

This is a famous restaurant where you can enjoy river fish dishes associated with Nagano Prefecture, such as sweetfish, char, snow trout, and Shinshu salmon. One of the signature dishes is eel. The Kanto-style unaju, steamed and grilled, is plump and thick with an addictive flavor. If you're dining with children, we recommend ordering the "eel sauce rice balls." Hungry children will be very satisfied with the rice balls soaked in the secret sauce that is constantly added to.
The restaurant serves freshwater fish swimming in a fish tank inside the restaurant.

The restaurant has table seating as well as tatami rooms, and there is ample seating for three generations of a family. If you're here, we recommend walking or taking a taxi to enjoy a few drinks. You can enjoy local Shinshu sake along with local dishes such as salt-grilled sweetfish (seasonal), whole trout sashimi, washed Saku carp, and deep-fried minnow. Shinshu salmon sashimi is popular with children. Adults will also be very satisfied with the clear, unobtrusive taste without any unpleasant odor.

The steaks and hitsumabushi made with Shinshu Alps beef are delicious!

The signature menu items are a variety of meat dishes made with Shinshu Alps beef, a brand of beef, and there are plenty of options, such as beef hitsumabushi, which uses a generous amount of sirloin, and a hearty loin steak. Shinshu Alps beef, which is characterized by its well-balanced sweetness of fat and soft texture, is sure to satisfy children as well. It's a good idea to order multiple menu items and share with the family.
There are plenty of children's menu items, including children's plates and omelet rice.

There is also a full menu for children. One of the most popular dishes for families is the "Children's Plate," which includes a hamburger steak, a large fried shrimp, and a free toy. This is available at an affordable price not only for lunch but also for dinner. There is also a full a la carte menu using local ingredients, such as Caesar salad made with Karuizawa fruit tomatoes and Shinshu salmon carpaccio.

4Italian restaurant La Luce
Authentic Italian food for children

This Italian restaurant opened in Karuizawa in 2000. It moved to its current location on the same premises in 2023.
Bagna Cauda is a dish that many people, both children and adults, order again after trying it once. The sauce is creamy, made with garlic and anchovies. Vegetables are served with the warm bagna sauce. The restaurant aims to use locally grown vegetables as much as possible, and depending on the season, you can find vegetables from contracted farmers who use natural farming methods or organic farming.
The wife of the chef in charge of service is a mother of five children. She said she wanted to create a restaurant where even families with children could enjoy authentic Italian food. For example, she recommends boiling pasta until it is a little soft, and for small children who have already started weaning, she recommends dipping "natural Hoshino yeast bread" in "organic corn soup."
Eating while your baby is sleeping

You must take off your shoes when entering Restaurant. There are table seats available, but the low tables are popular with families with children. You can place a long cushion next to the table for babies to sleep on, and there are also small chairs for children. There is a simple diaper changing station in the restroom, and the restaurant is well-equipped to accommodate children. However, please remember that this is Restaurant for people of all ages to enjoy, so please observe proper etiquette.

A casual Restaurant with a special menu

The name of "Sonmin-Shokudo" comes from the novel "Utsukushii Mura" by Tatsuo Hori, who wrote Karuizawa. This casual dining restaurant is adjacent to "Hoshino hot spring Tombo no Yu." As there are no time restrictions, it is popular with families throughout the day.
This Caesar salad uses half a head of lettuce, and is topped with bacon, croutons, hot spring eggs, etc. inside the lettuce, which opens up like a flower. It's a popular menu item that's also fun to eat by cutting it up yourself.
Children can Experience the taste of fresh lettuce: crisp, juicy and sweet.
Everyone's favorite hamburger steak, Shinshu style

Enjoy traditional German cuisine in Karuizawa

You can enjoy typical German home cooking made by a chef who has obtained a Meister qualification in Munich, Germany. The sausages, made with domestic pork and spices imported from Germany, are particularly authentic. The most popular dish is the "Recommended 4-piece Sausage Platter," which allows you to compare the coarsely ground sausage "Puerzer" and the white sausage "Weisswurst." "Fleischkäse," a sausage dough steamed like a meatloaf, is a dish that is easy for children to eat. "Eisbein," a traditional German dish made from stewed pork shank, is also delicious.
The spacious store is accessible with strollers

They always have eight types of beer and 20 types of wine available, all of which are imported from Germany. They will select a drink based on your taste and the food, so please feel free to request one. For children, they also offer "Shinshu Cloudy Fuji Apple Juice," made from 100% Shinshu apple juice.
From early summer to early winter, they also serve dishes made with vegetables grown in their own vegetable garden in the town. The restaurant has an open atmosphere with a terrace. There is ample space between the tables, and you can enter with a stroller, so you can enjoy a leisurely meal even with a baby.

8Minerva Sabo
A nostalgic teahouse with a wide variety of original menu items

This long-established Restaurant in Karuizawa is celebrating its 41st year and is marked by a building resembling a British Western-style mansion. As the name suggests, the restaurant started out as a coffee shop that mainly served drinks, but after receiving requests to add food to the menu, they began serving pasta. Their original fresh pasta is characterized by its chewy texture. They usually use egg pasta, but they also offer dried pasta for those with egg allergies. All of the sauces that go with the dish are homemade, and the creamy sauces in particular go well with the pasta.
The homemade flavor makes it easy for children to eat.

Along with pasta, you'll want to try pizza. The thin crust is crispy, and you can really taste the flavor of the crust itself. The "Pizza with Plenty of Vegetables and Miso Sauce," which uses Shinshu miso, has a gentle flavor that matches the sweetness of the miso and vegetables. You can share both pasta and pizza with your children. In addition, the "Dinner Set" for two, which includes a half-and-half pizza, fresh pasta, homemade ice cream or yogurt, and a drink, is a great deal at 3,000 yen. The restaurant also has a terrace and rooms where you can bring your pets.
