[2025 Edition] What are the recommended fireworks festivals in Atami this summer? Introducing the dates and highlights

Atami's fireworks festival allows you to enjoy a spectacular display of lights while feeling the pleasant sea breeze. The colorful fireworks that are shot from the sea into the night sky are unobstructed and very impressive. In addition to the Atami Seaside Fireworks Festival, a famous event held throughout the year, you can also enjoy the Taga Bay Seaside Fireworks Festival and the Izusan hot spring Summer Fireworks Festival, the oldest festival in Atami, as well as other summer night festivals in Atami.

The spectacular "Aerial Niagara Falls" reflected on the sea

This fireworks display has been going on for over 70 years since its first event in 1952 (Showa 27), and is now a famous event. It is held several times each season, not just in the summer. Atami Bay, where the fireworks are launched, is a bowl-shaped area surrounded by mountains on three sides. Therefore, the sound of the fireworks being launched over the sea reverberates, creating a powerful soundscape that makes you feel as if you are in a large stadium.
The highlight is the "Aerial Niagara" that decorates the finale. It is not a set firework, but a succession of star mines that are launched from the entire bay. The silver fireworks that fill the night sky, the sound of the launching like an earthquake. It is an impressive moment to be experienced with your eyes, ears and body.

The large fireworks that can be viewed from up close are very impressive

The Taga Bay Fireworks Festival is held in Izu Taga, two stations from Atami Station on the JR Ito Line. Along with the 300-year-old traditional event, the Hyakuhachitai Floating Lantern Festival (held on August 16th), this is an event to welcome the Obon festival. From the pier above the sea at Nagahama Seaside Park, about 2,000 colorful fireworks, including star mines and the famous "red aerial Niagara," are launched one after another, brilliantly lighting up the Taga night. You can look up at the fireworks from up close on the beach, which is very impressive.
The Nagahama Beer Festival and stage events will be held from 5pm, so we recommend enjoying a cold beer and watching the spectacular fireworks.

Taga Bay Fireworks Festival

The Gold and Silver Niagara "Marriage Fireworks" are worth seeing

This fireworks festival is held every year on August 3rd in Izuyama, the place where Minamoto no Yoritomo and Hojo Masako first met. It has the longest history in Atami and will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2025. Compared to other fireworks festivals, it features an overwhelming number of star mines, and the launches from Izuyama Port make for a very impressive sight. Large flowers bloom in the night sky.
The climax of the event is the finale, when the gold and silver Niagara Falls are launched. Commonly known as the "marriage fireworks," some couples pray for love.

Most of the fireworks that are launched are rapid-fire star mines, which are shot up at an angle and are a rare type of firework that you won't see very often anywhere else.
