Atami is bustling in the summer, but there are many places you should visit in the winter. We will introduce you to some of Atami's winter sightseeing spots, which can only be enjoyed in Atami, a city with both sea and mountains.
1Atami Plum Garden
A famous plum blossom spot where you can enjoy a variety of plum blossoms, from early to late blooming.

Atami has a warm climate and is known for its early-blooming plum blossoms. Atami Plum Garden, about a 10-minute walk from Kurinomiya Station, is a place where you can enjoy these early-blooming plum blossoms. This historic garden dates back to 1886 (Meiji 19), and is home to 472 plum trees of 59 varieties planted within its vast grounds of about 45,000m2. Depending on the variety, the plums come in a variety of colors, from pale pink to red, making it a popular spot for tourists.
Atami Umezono Plum Festival can be enjoyed for about two months

Every year, the plum blossoms begin to bloom between late November and early December, and the Atami Umezono Plum Festival is held from early January to early March. Depending on the variety, some bloom early, some mid-season, and some late, so you can enjoy different views until the festival ends in March.
During the festival, a foot bath with natural hot spring water will be set up right next to the Korean Garden within the park, where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

It is a type of winter cherry native to India that was brought to Atami by Italians in the early Meiji period and is known for being an early-blooming cherry. In Atami in winter, you can see these cherry trees everywhere. The Itokawa Promenade, which was built along the Itokawa River, is a famous spot where the Atami Sakura Itokawa Sakura Festival is held. A total of 58 beautiful Atami Sakura trees bloom along the promenade. During the festival, the cherry trees are lit up, and the area is bustling with people enjoying the fantastic nighttime cherry blossoms.

4Atami Fireworks Festival
Enjoy the beauty that can only be experienced in the clear winter air

The Atami Seaside Fireworks Festival is a fireworks festival that is held not only in the summer but all year round and is synonymous with Atami. The fireworks launched over the sea not only spread across the night sky, but are also beautifully reflected on the water's surface. Due to the unique topography of the area being surrounded by mountains on three sides, the sound of the fireworks reverberates more than usual, making it feel even more dynamic.
In winter, when the air is clear, the fireworks look even clearer and more beautiful than in summer. This is a wonderful view of Atami in winter.
