2Kasho Sanzen "Haginotsuki"
A soft and fluffy Sendai specialty as a souvenir for a special someone
Founded in 1947 (Showa 22), this confectionery shop continues to make Sendai's famous sweets. Widely known throughout the country, "Hagino Tsuki" is a confectionery inspired by castella and cream puffs. It features a soft and fluffy castella dough with a rich and mellow cream filling, giving it a refined taste. You can enjoy a different flavor by heating it in the microwave or chilling it in the refrigerator.
This sweet was created to become a Sendai specialty, and was the first in the country to use an oxygen absorber in sweets, as the founder wanted people to be able to take home delicious sweets from Sendai without worry. This prevents oxidation and allows the sweets to last longer without the use of preservatives. In 1978 (Showa 53), Toa Domestic Airlines (now Japan Airlines) started serving "Hagino Tsuki" with tea on flights between Sendai and Fukuoka. This was one of the reasons why it spread throughout the country.
