HOSHINOYA Guguan, the first luxury hot spring resort by Hoshino Resorts in Taiwan, will launch its limited winter-season cycling program “Songhe Tribe Village Cycling Expedition” from November 1st, 2023, to January 31st, 2024. \u00a0During the autumn and winter seasons, when our basal metabolism is higher than in summer, which makes us more suited to exercise, a cycling program around a nearby village will be hosted. With an experienced guide, guests will cycle to the Songhe tribe village through the forest and also learn about its history.\u00a0<\/p>

Characteristic 1: Explore the Songhe Tribe Village and its history<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0through cycling
<\/u><\/strong>The Songhe Tribe village is home to one of the Taiwan indigenous groups, the Atayal people, and this program starts by heading to the Songhe Tribe Village along the Dijia River about 10 minutes by car from HOSHINOYA Guguan. From there, 2.5-kilometer cycling using an electric bicycle from BESV company, a Taiwanese bicycle brand, can be enjoyed. Basianshan Mountain used to be called Taiwan’s Three Great Forest Sites, and it still has a vast old-growth forest. Songtsuru is a settlement inhabited by the Taiyal, one of Taiwan’s indigenous people. From the start of cycling, guests can bike through the Taiwan Pine Tree Tunnel, while taking in the cool air and feeling the sunlight that is filtered through the branches and the gaps between leaves.<\/p>

Characteristic 2: Private Picnic in the Mountains
<\/u><\/strong>After reaching the resting point, at the highest point of elevation within the Songhe tribe village, guests can enjoy a Japanese-style bento box. With the beautiful backdrop of Guguan’s beautiful mountain scenery, this meal will provide a perfect opportunity to replenish the energy needed after the exercise. Each item in the bento box is carefully crafted by the head chef with a variety of temari<\/em> sushi and Japanese-style side dishes, including egg rolls with grilled eel, shrimp tempura, salmon mousse, winter bamboo shoots with bonito flakes, chicken meatballs, sweet potato salad, black sugar glazed black beans, and desserts such as matcha tiramisu and kanten<\/em> jelly with fruits are also included. The use of local ingredients and Japanese culinary techniques allows guests to experience a private mountain picnic.<\/p>

Characteristic 3: Hot Spring Bath to Soothe the Mind and Body
<\/u><\/strong>After a total of 5-kilometer on the bike, guests can enjoy a soak in the hot spring bath to relieve fatigue and any sore muscles. The Guguan hot springs gushes all year round, ensuring a steady stream of spring water throughout the year. The hot spring is a bicarbonate spring, which is less irritating for the skin and is also known as the “spring of beauty. ” At HOSHINOYA Guguan, the bathtub of the public hot spring uses wood, which is a familiar design in Japan and as it is an open-air bath, guests can enjoy a relaxing soak.<\/p>
