星野リゾートに行くことになっている数日前に日本に着いたので、世界一の大都市を探索することができました。やあ!東京!
Having arrived in Japan few days before I was due in Hoshino Resorts, I had the opportunity to explore the largest city in the world! Hora! Tokyo!
私が最初に日本のおもてなしに触れたのは、JAL便に搭乗したときです。客室乗務員全員が素晴らしく、サービスも完璧でした。
I had a first touch of Japanese hospitality upon boarding my JAL flight, all the stewardess were very well kept, and service was flawless.
銀座、渋谷、そして秋葉原を歩きましたが、どこでも店員さんが大きな声で熱心にお客さんを呼び込んでいましたね。店員さんはにこにことした笑顔で仕事に誇りを持っているようでした。
As I was taking a walk in Ginza/Shibuya and Akihabara, all the shop employees were enthusiastically shouting out welcoming phrases to attract customers, in addition, they seem to take pride in their jobs showing gleeful smiles on their faces.
私が訪れた他の国々と違って、高級ブティックでも地元のお店でも従業員が自分の携帯を使っているということがまったくなく、そのことが印象に残りました。些細なことかもしれませんが、自分の仕事で最善を尽くすという文化をおおいに反映していると思います。
As compared to other countries i have been to, no employee was using their phone at any time, from high end boutiques to neighbourhood stores, this leaves an impressive image of themselves. It may not seem like much, but this shows a great deal about their culture, that is to put in the best in what they do.

まんが喫茶での夜 A Night at a Manga Cafe
私は最初の晩を渋谷のまんが喫茶で過ごすことにしました。
I chose to spend my first night in a manga cafe in Shibuya.
カウンターのスタッフは、彼の第一言語ではない英語で私と会話するためにいつも以上の努力が必要だったのですが、幸運にも会話が通じて自分の個室を確保でき嬉しかったです。スタッフの方に感謝しています。
Counter staff had to put in extra effort to converse with me in English as it’s not his first language. I’m pleased and fortunate to be able to converse and book a booth for myself thanks to him.
まんが喫茶で一晩過ごすというのは、まったく異なる次元の経験で、どういうものなのかは自分で体験してみないとわからないと思います。
Spending a night in a manga cafe was a whole different level of experience that you will have to try yourself to really know how it’s like.

感謝の気持ち Gratitude
お昼に入った地元のとんかつ屋さんでのことです。ある外国人のカップルが待ってもいいから昔ながらの畳のお座敷でなくテーブル席に座りたいとすべて英語で頼んでいました。不運なことに、女性店員さんはそのお客さんの言ったことの大半が理解できず困った様子だったので、
Lunch at a local katsu shop, when couple asked to be seated on chairs as compared to the traditional japanese seating on tatami, and that he could wait for an empty table, all in English. Unfortunately the lady did not understand most of what he said and gave a puzzled look.
私は相席を申し出て店員さんに彼の要望を伝えてあげようとしたらすごく感謝されました。
I offered to share my table and tried telling the shop lady what he had requested for, in which she was very grateful
数分後にわざわざ私のところまでお礼を言いに来てくださったんです。大したことをしたわけではないのに嬉しかったですね。
She even came by few minutes later to express her gratitude, which I felt was nice as it didn’t seem like I had done much.

いつも自分が接している店員さんとは違うなと思いました。 Not just your ordinary waitress
界 箱根に滞在中、なかさんが夕食を給仕してくれたんですが、温かくもてなしてくださいました。労を惜しまずすべての料理を説明してくれただけでなく、食材も1つ1つ教えてくれて素晴らしかったです。
Met Naka San during my stay at Kai Hakone who helped serve my dinner, she did a great job in making me feel welcomed and painstakingly explained all the dishes that were about to be served to me and also pointed out the individual items in the food that arrived.
メレンゲ鍋が富士山に見立てられていることや、足柄茶の名称の由来も詳しく教えてくれて、ご飯やお汁のおかわりもよそってくださいました。
Her explaination was detailed, telling me how the pot of meringue will end up looking like Mt. Fuji, how the beverage is called Ashigara tea, and even offered to top up my staple and soup.
訪ねる場所が決まっていないと言うと、わざわざバスの時刻表と観光地図も持ってきてくださったんです。
She even took the extra step to provide the bus stop schedule and a map with recommendations after hearing that I wasn’t sure on where to visit.
私たちは色々話してお互いの国のことを教え合ったりしました。日本で新しい友達ができて嬉しいです。
We talked and I shared with her about my country while she shared with me hers. I’m glad to make a new tomodachi(friend) here.
日本の好きなこと／嫌いなことを教えてください。
好きなこと
皆とても温かく歓迎してくれました。いつでもどこでも誰に対しても、おもてなしの気遣いがされていますね。
Everyone was very warm and welcoming, exluding their hospitality towards everyone, anywhere and anytime.
旅行中さまざまな場所に宿泊して、日本のホテルの部屋は最も狭い部類に入ると思っていたのですが、界 箱根では部屋の広さに驚愕しました。私の部屋なら10人は泊まれるんじゃないかと思いましたね。
Having stayed in various lodging places in my travels, I’ve come to realise that Japan hotels offer one of the smallest rooms, however, upon staying at Kai Hakone, the size of the room blew me away! It feels like one can room 10 people in my room.
たまたまだったんだろうと思ってあまり期待せずにリゾナーレ熱海に行ったんですが、
Thinking it was a one time fluke, I went to Resonare Atami without much expectations.
着いてびっくり、熱海の部屋は広いだけでなく眺めも最高でした。私の写真では正確に伝わらないので実際に泊まって思い出深い体験をしてください!
Wow, was I wrong, not only were the rooms in Atami spacious, the view is fabulous, my pictures do not justify the place so please go stay for a memorable experience!
今度は大切な人たちと一緒に星野リゾートを訪れたいです。
Now I want to invite my loved ones to experience what Hoshino has to offer!
嫌いなこと
嫌いなところを挙げるのはとても難しいですね。街角から交通機関まですべてがとても整備されていてきれいですし、ホテルの部屋や頻繁に使用されている駅のトイレも清潔です。私が旅行する際には、このようなことを最重要視しています。
I do have a very hard time finding something to dislike. Everything is very organized, from streets to transportation, and clean, may it be hotel rooms to busy toilets in train stations. These are the most important aspects I look out for when traveling.
指摘するとすれば、日本を訪れている外国人がその土地の文化習慣に従っていない点です。
The only thing I can point out are some foreigners who come to Japan and do not follow the local cultural habits.
電車の中で大声で話していたり、先に身体を洗わずに温泉に入ったり、歩きたばこや路上につばを吐いたりしていました。
Speaking loudly in trains, using the onsen without cleaning themselves before, smoking while walking on the streets and even spitting on the ground.
ほとんどの日本人は大変礼儀正しくて、注意しません。
Most Japanese are so well mannered that they wouldn’t tell them off.
移動中のひとこま
テレコムスクエアのルーターの接続は良好で、電車内や地下でもしっかりWiFi接続できました。機器は140ｇと軽量でバッテリーの持続時間は12時間です。
The router provided by Telecom Square had good connection, even in trains and underground I had strong wifi connection! Device is light at 140grams with a battery life of 12 hours.
