Day 9 features Akari Watanabe and Yuna Kato, members of Kitamachi Adventures, a Nara Women's University club dedicated to sharing the charms of the Kitamachi area.
In a university class, we researched ways to address overtourism in Nara, and that is when we rediscovered the charm of the Kitamachi area north of Kintetsu Nara Station. We founded Kitamachi Adventures after the project ended because we wanted more people to know about this place. Kitamachi is a place where you can see layers of Nara’s history and beautiful nature. Cycling is the best way to enjoy it! Start at Kintetsu Nara Station, pass the National Treasure Tegaimon Gate on your right, and head north. Climbing the narrow road once known as the Kyokaido, you will arrive at the Nara Prison Museum. After your visit, a hearty chicken tempura set at Tachibana and rich soft-serve ice cream at Uemura Farm await you.

Kitamachi Adventures consists of four members, including Akari Watanabe (on the left) and Yuna Kato (on the right) from Nara Women’s University. Having completed their first cycling guidebook, Nara Pedal Journey, their next goal is to create a new version for international visitors. Watanabe’s favorite Kitamachi spot is Hannyaji Temple, while Kato’s is Naramahiko Shrine.
