Naha's main street is about 1.6km long and lined with restaurants serving Okinawan cuisine, cafes, souvenir shops, and department stores. Just walking around the storefronts is filled with Okinawa's classic souvenir sweets, as well as Yachimun (pottery) dishes, shisa lions, and local Okinawan T-shirts, and your anticipation for your trip will rise.
Kokusai-dori was dramatically rebuilt after the war and is also known as the "Miracle Mile" due to its length of about one mile. Every Sunday from 12:00 to 18:00, the "Transit Mile" is held, where pedestrians have priority access to the street. The street is bustling with a variety of events, including live music and performances.

"Tsuboya ware" is characterized by its thick, plump form and bold painting. At the onigiri cafe located near Shuri Castle Park, you can try Okinawa's soul food, "Pork and Egg Onigiri." There are 11 different varieties available, including the standard "Oni Po," a sandwich of pork luncheon meat (Spam) and rolled egg. They don't prepare the onigiri in advance, but serve it fresh after you order. Another great point is that you can choose between white rice and brown rice. Original menu items such as "Goyachampu Onigiri" and "Taco Onigiri" are also popular. It's fun to try different varieties and compare them.
Don't miss the drinks and sweets. Okinawa's specialty "Ice Zenzai" is served in a unique Yachimun (pottery) dish. It is a masterpiece with an exquisite balance of red kidney beans with the aroma of brown sugar, shiratama (rice flour dumplings), and ice.

For the last part of your trip, let's take a tour of Shuri Castle Park and the surrounding area, using the information you learned in the Shuri Castle Lecture the previous day.
Shuri Castle, the royal castle of the Ryukyu Kingdom, is said to have been built around the 14th century, and flourished as the political and cultural center. It was burned down during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945 (Showa 20), but was later developed into Shuri Castle Park. In 2000, the ruins of Shuri Castle were registered as a World Heritage Site. Many cultural assets such as the Shureimon Gate and Sonohyan Utaki Stone Gate are scattered throughout the park. There are also Restaurant and cafes, so you can enjoy a leisurely stroll.
The main hall and other buildings were destroyed in a fire in 2019, but the restoration work is currently open to the public in preparation for its opening in the fall of 2026. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see the restoration work in progress.
