There are many spots in Hamamatsu where you can enjoy cherry blossoms. The harmony between the castle tower of Hamamatsu Castle and the cherry blossoms, the tree-lined roads along the river that look like a tunnel of cherry blossoms, and the parks where multiple types of cherry blossoms bloom at different times also attract people. Here are 8 famous cherry blossom spots in Hamamatsu City.
1Hamamatsu Castle Park
A magnificent combination of castle and cherry blossoms

Hamamatsu Castle is known as "a castle of success that has carved out 300 years of Tokugawa history." Below the castle tower, there is a Japanese garden and a grassy plaza. The park is also famous for its magnificent cherry blossoms around the castle tower, and about 350 Somei-Yoshino, weeping and wild cherry trees are planted here, which blend beautifully with the castle tower and stone walls to create a beautiful landscape.
During the usual flowering season from late March to early April, approximately 500 lanterns are lit up, allowing you to enjoy the cherry blossoms at night.

5Sanaruko Park
The wide variety of cherry blossoms and the vast cherry blossom viewing space are popular

Located to the west of Hamamatsu city, this park is located around Lake Sanaru, the second largest lake in Shizuoka prefecture after Lake Hamana. Approximately 700 different kinds of cherry trees are planted in the park, which covers an area of about 50 hectares, and they usually bloom in early March in the following order: Kawazu cherry blossoms, Kanhizakura cherry blossoms, Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms, and Yaezakura cherry blossoms.
Recommended viewing spots for the approximately 90 Kawazu cherry trees are near the Lake Sanaru Rowing Course on the southwest shore, and for the Kanhi cherry trees, near the North Bank Management Building. Popular spots for Somei-Yoshino cherry trees are the rows of trees around Tomizuka Hanamidai and Hyotan Pond on the west bank. When in full bloom, a tunnel of cherry blossoms forms on the road on the east bank, making for a beautiful sight.
The Sanaru Lake Park Sakura Festival is held every year from late March to early April. During this period, food stalls are lined up around Hyotan Pond and Tomizuka Hanamidai from 10am to 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays, making the area even more lively.

6Okuyama Park
View the elegant cherry blossoms reflected in the water from a floating pier

This natural park stretches from the entrance to Hokoji Temple in Kita-ku, Hamamatsu City to the three-story pagoda. Surrounded by mountains, in early April, about 1,000 Somei-Yoshino and Yamazakura cherry trees bloom on the slopes of the park. A particularly popular cherry blossom viewing spot is the 75m-long Dream Floating Bridge that floats on the pond in the park. While crossing the swaying floating bridge, you can enjoy the cherry blossoms blooming as if peering into the water. In addition, the area is lit up when the cherry blossoms bloom, and the combination of the cherry blossoms and the three-story pagoda floating in the night sky is a sight worth seeing at least once.
We recommend visiting when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, but it's also popular when the petals start to fall, creating a pink flower raft on the water.

7Hanakawa Embankment (Kawazu cherry blossoms at Higashidaiyama)
The Kawazu cherry blossoms, one of the best in the prefecture, bloom for about 1km

The Hana River, which runs through residential areas in the northwest of Hamamatsu city and flows into Lake Hamana, is known as a famous Kawazu cherry blossom viewing spot. Approximately 400 Kawazu cherry trees lovingly cultivated by local volunteers bloom in a 1km stretch on both sides of the embankment, making it one of the largest in western Shizuoka prefecture. The area has become a hot topic through word of mouth, and the Higashidaiyama Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival is held during the flowering season, attracting many cherry blossom viewers from inside and outside the prefecture. In addition, rape blossoms also bloom in parts of the Hana River at around the same time, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful contrast of pink and yellow.
Shortly after the Kawazu cherry blossom season ends, about 130 Somei Yoshino cherry trees begin to bloom. This is also a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in Hamamatsu City.

8Hamamatsu Fruit Park Tokinosumika
A hidden cherry blossom viewing spot where you can see rare flowers other than cherry blossoms

An agricultural park where 16 kinds of fruit are grown on an area about the size of nine Tokyo Domes. Normally, it is a spot to enjoy picking grapes, pears, apples, and other fruits, but it is also popular as a cherry blossom viewing spot where you can enjoy rare flowers.
Particularly unusual is the approximately 300 almond trees planted on the slopes of a mountain measuring approximately 5,000m2. They begin to bloom a little earlier than the cherry blossoms, with cherry blossom-like flowers blooming all over the branches. The "Almond Square" in the east area is a lawn where you can spread out a picnic sheet and enjoy a leisurely cherry blossom viewing. The "Almond Festival" is held every year in late March, where nut foods and seedlings are sold.
There are about 100 Somei Yoshino cherry trees and about 270 other varieties planted around the "Sakura Garden" and "Oike Pond". It is relatively quiet compared to other cherry blossom viewing spots in the city, so it is also recommended for those who want to enjoy the cherry blossoms at a leisurely pace.
[Blooming season] Mid-March to mid-April
[Best time to see] Almonds: usually late March, Cherry blossoms: usually early April
[Types of flowers] Almond, Yoshino cherry, Yaezakura cherry, apple, pear, etc.
