This is the gallery of Maeda Shinzo, renowned as a leading figure in Japanese landscape photography. Fascinated by the Western-style scenery of Biei Town, Maeda Shinzo continued to take landscape photographs, quickly spreading the name of "Biei, the town of hills" throughout the country. As a base of operations in Hokkaido, he built a permanent photography exhibition Property on the site of a closed elementary school in Takushin, Biei Town, which is surrounded by vast natural scenery, and named it "Takushinkan." The cute retro building surrounded by trees is a picturesque sight in itself.

2Goto Sumio Museum of Art

Enjoy the world of Japanese painter Sumio Goto

Goto Sumio was a leading contemporary Japanese painter. Attracted by the harsh nature of Hokkaido, he set up his studio in Kamifurano and opened the Goto Sumio Museum of Art in September 1997. Many of the works he painted here until his death in 2016 are on display. Each of the six exhibition rooms houses works by theme, and in addition to large-scale works such as the 14m-wide "Sea of Clouds, Yellow Mountains, Clear Rain," which depicts China, and the 7m-wide "Tokachi Mountain Range," you can also see smaller works such as sketches.

3Glass Forest in FURANO

A beautiful world of glass that reflects the northern climate

This glass studio is located in Rokugo, Furano City, known as the location for the TV drama "From the North Country." The large grounds are divided into six buildings and studios, and each building displays and sells original glass, miscellaneous goods, accessories, art pieces, and more. The most popular series is the "Shibare Glass" series. The minute cracks, reminiscent of diamond dust in the harsh winter, change over time and become more appealing. No two pieces have the same pattern, so it's fun to pick them up and look for the one that catches your eye.

4Furano Cheese Factory

Enjoy the charms of "Furano Cheese" in a quiet forest

At the foot of Mt. Nishifurano, on the outskirts of Furano City, there is a quiet forest known as Cheese Park, within which you will find the Furano Cheese Factory. Here, dairy products made from raw milk produced on Furano farms are manufactured and sold. You can observe the cheese-making process through glass, including the cheese-making room and aging cellar. In the sales corner on the second floor, you can purchase dairy products such as cheese and butter, as well as sample wine-infused cheddar cheese and squid ink cheese. 5Earthen House

A museum that tells the story of tilling the soil

This museum was established to convey the wonders of agriculture and the importance of the relationship between the earth and people. Valuable agricultural equipment, soil specimens and other materials are on display, giving visitors an insight into the hardships of Hokkaido's land development. The first exhibition hall displays the workshop and part of the blacksmith's shop of Toyoji Sugano, the founder of Sugano Agricultural Machinery, a farming equipment manufacturer. In the second exhibition hall, you can see precious hoes, shovels and plows from around the world. Also noteworthy is the display of over 100 soil specimens, including a spectacular 4m-long mudflow specimen that tells the story of the spectacular eruption of Mt. Tokachi in 1926 (Taisho 15).

A permanent exhibition of nearly 100 rare tractors

The adjacent Tractor Museum has a permanent exhibition of 93 colorful classic tractors from Japan and abroad, including the first domestically produced tractor, as well as a steam tractor manufactured in Canada over 100 years ago that is still in operation today. You'll encounter adorable tractors that will make you want to take photos.
The Earth Hall was recognized and registered as a Hokkaido Heritage Site in 2004, a Mechanical Heritage Site in 2014, and two plows as Future Technology Heritage Sites in 2017. If you visit Furano, this is definitely a spot you'll want to stop by.

6Ohashi Cherry Farm

All-you-can-eat cherry picking Experience

This vast cherry farm is equipped with a 47,000㎡ all-weather rain shelter dome similar to the Tokyo Dome. Approximately 50 varieties and 1500 cherries are cultivated here, and for over 40 years they have been grown using only organic fertilizers without the use of chemical fertilizers.
Cherry picking season usually runs from early July to late August. There is no time limit and you can eat as much as you like, comparing popular varieties and new varieties. The cherry trees are grown at a low height, so even children can easily pick them. There are also Staff/staff member on hand at the fields to give you advice on the varieties.

The recommended time is from late July when the high-quality varieties start to ripen.

At Ohashi Cherry Farm, the high-quality varieties begin to ripen from late July. The most recommended of these is the yellow Gassan Nishiki, which boasts the highest sugar content of all cherries and is very popular. In addition, for two days in late July, you can pick the rare high-quality Benishuho cherry.
It gets crowded around lunchtime on weekends, but is relatively quiet between 9:00 and 11:00 and 14:00 and 16:00. A shuttle bus is available on weekdays only to transport visitors around the large park, allowing children and the elderly to enjoy themselves without worry.

7Tokachidake hot spring Kamihoroso

Relax in hot spring and natural surroundings at an altitude of 1,200m

This long-established inn was founded in 1965 and is quietly located in Daisetsuzan National Park at an altitude of 1,200m on the slopes of Mt. Tokachi. The surrounding area is a primeval forest of red spruce trees, and is home to wild animals such as Yezo deer and Ezo red foxes, a natural wonder unique to Hokkaido.
