1Hanagasa Restaurant
Enjoy Okinawan home cooking with your choice of soup and rice

This is a long-established restaurant that was founded in 1967. It features a set menu where you can choose from five types of soup and three types of rice, and in addition to miso soup and Okinawa soba, you can choose from five types of soup, such as "Nakamijiru" made with pork offal, and "Inarumuchi" made with sweet white miso and lots of other ingredients.
If you want to sample the local cuisine to the fullest, we recommend the "Ryukyu Set Meal." It comes with bitter melon, seaweed, mozuku tempura, and a rich, sweet stew similar to oden, unique to Okinawa.
A long-established restaurant that has been loved in Naha City for many years

The set meal includes a choice of soup and rice, a small side dish, and Okinawan zenzai for dessert, allowing you to fully enjoy the traditional flavors loved by locals. The signature dish "Hanagasa Set Meal," which has remained unchanged since the restaurant first opened, is also recommended. It comes with soft, chewy tebichi (pig's trotters) and stew.
The restaurant is located in a back alley of Heiwa-dori Shopping Street, just one street away from the bustling main street of Kokusai-dori. Many people, from young to old, visit the restaurant in search of affordable, hearty home-cooked meals.

2Tsubame Dining Area (Makishi Public Market)
Enjoy seafood dishes using fresh fish purchased at Makishi Public Market

This store was the first to introduce the "pick-up system," where customers purchase ingredients from the fish and butcher shops on the first floor of Makishi Public Market, pay a cooking fee, and have the ingredients cooked for them.
In the agarita cooking, Okinawan fish such as meebai and irabucha are used, and are popular as sashimi, butter-fried, or simmered. Irabucha simmered in mars is simply seasoned with dashi and salt, allowing you to enjoy the natural flavor of the ingredients. In contrast, the sashimi has a light and refreshing taste. Sea grapes served with shiso sauce are the perfect garnish.
Offering a menu that combines Okinawan cuisine with authentic Chinese cuisine

The restaurant started as a restaurant serving Chinese and Okinawan cuisine, run by the original Taiwanese owner. After moving to the public market, regular customers expressed a desire to try dishes other than those on the restaurant's menu, leading to the creation of the lifting system, which uses ingredients available for purchase on the first floor of the market to cook food.
Even today, the restaurant continues to offer classic Okinawan cuisine and authentic Chinese cuisine, just as it did when it first opened. Another attraction is the menu, which you won't find anywhere else, such as "Goya Nakami Stir-fried," an Okinawan version of Goya Chanpuru with Taiwanese douchi soybean miso.

4Manjumai
A popular restaurant that boasts home-cooked meals made with plenty of Okinawan ingredients

This Okinawan home cooking restaurant is run by an owner from Ishigaki Island. It is popular for its carefully prepared and flavorful dishes, such as "Pipazu Soba," homemade noodles kneaded with the classic Yaeyama spice "Pipazu," and the "Old-fashioned Homemade Yushi Tofu Set Meal," which has a crumbly texture. "Pork and Egg" is a popular daily set meal, with a fluffy omelet and thick spam that go perfectly together.
The restaurant's name, "Manjumai," is the word for papaya in Ishigaki Island. The "Tebichi no Nitsuke" and "Rafute," which are slowly simmered with locally grown papaya, are also popular dishes.
Reopening in Matsuyama area after receiving support from local residents

The restaurant opened in Kumoji, Naha City in 1975 and has been in business for 46 years. It was forced to close once in 2021 due to demolition due to the deterioration of the building it was in. However, there were constant voices from regular customers wishing for it to reopen, so in 2022 it moved to the neighboring town of Matsuyama and reopened. It is still loved by locals today and continues to serve traditional dishes using traditional cooking methods.

5Miso rice shop Marutama
Healthy cuisine made with Okinawa's traditional miso

This restaurant serves misomeshi (rice with miso) made with miso produced at Tamanaha Miso Soy Sauce, a long-established miso brewery with over 170 years of history in Shuri. Tamanaha Miso Soy Sauce is also the owner's mother's family home, and the restaurant opened in 2016 with the desire to "let people know the appeal of Tamanaha miso."
All dishes served at the restaurant, except for small dishes and beverages, are made with naturally brewed, additive-free miso. The popular breakfast and lunch "Miso Soup with lots of ingredients" is a satisfying dish that includes local red pork, island tofu, shimeji mushrooms, and eggs. For the rice in the set, you can choose between white rice or organic brown rice.
As an antenna shop for "Tamaha Miso Soy Sauce", miso is also sold in stores.

The miso used in the dishes varies from Ocho miso, Shuri miso, and specially selected miso. For the "Miso Soup with lots of ingredients," Ocho miso is used, which is rich in flavor, and for the "Inamuchi," a pork soup-like dish that has long been popular as a court dish, Shuri miso is used, which is lightly fermented and brings out the sweetness. Of course, different miso is used depending on the dish, and sometimes they are blended or the degree of fermentation is taken into consideration.
The shop's most commonly used miso, Ocho Miso, can also be purchased as a souvenir at the store. Please enjoy this traditional miso with its gentle, nostalgic flavor at home.
