1Taketomi Island Garden Asahi
Enjoy a hearty lunch at one of the island's long-established Restaurant

Located near the "West Pier," this long-established Restaurant has been in business on Taketomi Island for 30 years. You can enjoy dishes such as Yaeyama soba and rafute donburi. The most popular dish is the "Asahi A Set." It is a hearty menu of homemade dishes such as fried shrimp, hamburger steak, and fried chicken breast served on one plate with rice and a mini salad. The crispy, fragrant fries and the fluffy, juicy hamburger steak are very satisfying. Another nice point is that it comes with a mini Yaeyama soba instead of soup.
Enjoy a relaxing island time in a bright restaurant with island folk songs playing.

A shisa sits on the red tile roof and the garden is beautifully maintained. The typical Taketomi Island atmosphere lifts your spirits even before you enter. The spacious and bright interior is filled with island folk songs and decorated with photos and paintings of flora and fauna. Visitors are greeted with hospitality typical of Taketomi Island. There is a wide variety of rice dishes on the menu, such as "Okinawa Agu Curry," "Taco Rice," and "Rafute Rice Bowl," and the "Cartilage Soki Soba" with melt-in-your-mouth soki is also popular. There are several sizes of soba, such as "Children's Soba" and "Yaeyama Soba (small)," so it is also recommended for families with children.

Located near Taketomi Post Office, this is the largest Dining Area on the island. You can enjoy hearty meals made with local ingredients and handmade ingredients. Among the standard menu items such as set meals and Yaeyama soba, the Misaki beef hamburger steak and Taketomi Island kuruma prawn fry set is particularly popular. You can enjoy the fluffy hamburger steak made with Misaki beef from Ishigaki Island and the rich sweetness of island kuruma prawns. There is also a set menu recommended for vegetarians, which includes fried seafood such as gurukun (white fish) caught in nearby waters, deep-fried island vegetables, and deep-fried island tofu on one plate.
Relax in the spacious, warm, wooden interior

All the dishes are carefully made by hand, even the sauces. The "Island Vegetable Curry" uses Pandanus tempura and pea palm leaves, making it a fun experience to encounter rare island ingredients. The "Soki Soba" topped with tender bone-in meat is also recommended, and is available in a child-sized bowl. They also offer a la carte dishes and shaved ice, so why not stop by during a bike ride? Look for the building in Ryukyu architecture where you will be greeted by many shisa statues. You can also enjoy taking photos with the creative shisa statues with their fun expressions.

3Soba restaurant Takenoko
A long-established soba restaurant that has been serving Yaeyama soba for 45 years

Located near the Nishi Pier, this is a long-established Yaeyama soba restaurant founded in 1975. They have always been particular about soba, and their most popular dish is the "Soki Soba" topped with tender soki. It's so delicious that you'll want to savor the soup as well. The soba soup is made with chicken bones and pork bones, and is cooked over a fire. The pork used in the soki soba and "Sanmainiku Soba" is also carefully prepared over time. You can feel the attention to detail in every part of the restaurant. Adding the island pepper "Piyashi", inherited from the previous owner's grandmother, brings out the umami of the dashi stock and allows you to enjoy the change in flavor.
Take a break in the charming Ryukyu architecture of this shop

The restaurant has a cute appearance with a red tile roof. The interior has a warm wooden feel, making you feel like you've come to an old lady's house on the island. There are six table seats and counter seats, and we recommend sitting on the terrace on a nice day. In addition to soba, they also offer a menu of snacks. The Okinawan-style seasoned rice "Jushii" contains chopped pea palm leaves, which are the raw material for island pepper, giving it a spicy aroma. As it is a popular restaurant, it may close once the soba runs out. To ensure a smooth service, it is best to come with plenty of time.

4Haa-Ya Nagomi Cafe
Enjoy cafe menus and island cuisine in a pop atmosphere

A popular cafe near the Tower of Nagomi. Popular lunch items include taco rice, taco omu (rice omelette with taco rice inside), and the classic Yaeyama soba. There are also about 15 Okinawa-style a la carte dishes. The island vegetable curry is made with plenty of freshly picked vegetables full of vitality from the island, including bittern and longevity grass picked in front of the shop, as well as island pumpkin, eggplant, and papaya. It is not too spicy so that even small children can eat it. The vegetables used are those available on the day, so you can enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime curry.
The only place on the island where you can enjoy a view of the village from the second floor

This is the only shop on Taketomi Island that is located on the second floor, and outside the windows you can see the red-tiled roofs of the village. From the outside it looks like a private home, but once you climb the stairs and enter the second floor entrance you'll find a bright space. Originally a guesthouse, the owner's daughter and husband hand-decorated the interior and converted it into a cafe. Attention to detail can be seen everywhere, from the plaster walls to the exposed concrete ceiling. There is also a wide selection of desserts and smoothies, making it the perfect place to take a break during your bike ride.

The popular "Rafute Bowl" is a perfect combination of slowly stewed pork and a sweet and spicy miso-based sauce. It melts in your mouth. For lunch, there are 10 types of rice and soba dishes, and you can also enjoy shaved ice and ice cream. The specialty "Taketomi Soba" is soba noodles topped with rafute and the island's chomeiso grass, and can only be eaten here. Original dishes such as "Mozuku Soba" topped with island-grown mozuku seaweed are also popular.
Enjoy lunch while feeling the breeze at an open-air island restaurant

The owner's homemade dishes are highly rated, and even the taco meat for the "Taco Rice" is all handmade. The "Yaeyama Soba" is also carefully made, starting with the soup stock. The simple Yaeyama Soba is actually the most time-consuming dish. The gentle flavor of the soup stock permeates the restaurant.
The restaurant has a peaceful island-like atmosphere, with locals relaxing and a large shisa sitting inside. The restaurant's name, "Shidame," means "snail" in the Taketomi Island dialect. It's a comfortable restaurant where you can relax and unwind.

8Dining Area Yarabo
Enjoy Yaeyama soba at the oldest restaurant on Taketomi Island

This is a long-established soba restaurant located on the edge of Nishi Village. It is not well known as they do not actively advertise, but it has been loved by the people of the island for many years. The soba noodles topped with plenty of kuruma prawns from Taketomi Island are exceptionally delicious, with the rich soup and the delicious flavor of the shrimp added. Kuruma prawn farming is popular on Taketomi Island, and they are used by Yarabo, who has them prepared for them. The period during which they can be served seems to change depending on the shrimp harvest. The portions are very filling, as the owner wants people to "eat a lot."
A warm and welcoming interior filled with handmade furniture and accessories

The simple Yaeyama soba and the long-cooked soki soba are also popular. Yarabo's Yaeyama soba, which has been around since 1973, is a delicious dish with a tonkotsu-based soup made with bonito stock and island soy sauce. The island pepper piiyashi is slightly coarsely ground.
"Yarabo" is an abbreviation for the tree "Terihaboku" that is used in the island's windbreaks. Inside the store, there is a table that resembles a stump made from a yarabo tree. There are also other handmade accessories lined up, giving the store a warm atmosphere. The store is open irregularly, but if you are lucky, it is definitely worth a visit.
