This is a long-established store that has been operating as a dried fish shop since the Edo period, more than 150 years ago. The current fifth-generation owner visits the market every day, purchasing fish that he personally selects and makes into dried fish. The manufacturing process also follows traditional techniques, and the product is made without additives. The fish-cutting techniques and exquisite salting using sun-dried salt, passed down from generation to generation, are the techniques and seasonings that only a long-established store can offer.

This dried fish specialty store has over 30 types of fish, mainly local fish, such as horse mackerel, barracuda, and alfonsino on display in the storefront. The most popular item is dried horse mackerel. They also offer lightly salted dried fish with no additives, using only Kakitagawa Spring Water, which is the melting snow of Mt. Fuji and is selected as one of the 100 famous waters in Japan, and sun-dried salt, as well as boneless fish with the backbone and belly bones removed, making them popular souvenirs for people of all ages. 2Atami Honke Tokiwagi "Hyakunen Yokan"

Since the establishment of Honke Tokiwagi in Atami, "Hyakunen Yokan" has been a signature product for over 100 years. In addition to the standard flavors of chestnut, red bean, matcha, and plum, Atamikan is available in summer and yuzu in winter. Among them, Honren Yokan is made using domestically produced agar and red beans, so the gentle flavor and sweetness of the original red beans spreads, and its simplicity conveys the skill and tradition of the artisans.
In addition, the yuzu, matcha, and plum yokan are also made using safe, high-quality domestic ingredients, and the packaging is also handmade in cellophane, the same method that has remained unchanged for the past 100 years.

Since its founding in 1918 (Taisho 7), the shop has faithfully preserved the traditional methods and flavors passed down from the founder. The shop staff use ingredients carefully selected by their own eyes and tongues, and do not use any preservatives or other additives. Even today, they continue to make simple, traditional Japanese sweets.

3Miki Ki Confectionery "Cat's Tongue"

Miki Kikka is a Western-style confectionery shop founded in 1948 (Showa 23). The shop's specialty cookie, Neko no Shita (Cat's Tongue), is popular with locals and tourists alike. It has a light and crunchy texture, and was named after the way it feels like a kitten's tongue when you put it in your mouth. The only ingredients are fresh butter, eggs, sugar, and flour. The taste has remained unchanged for nearly 70 years since the shop opened.

4Atami Hoteiya "Steamed Bread"

This is the signature product of "Hoteiya," a beloved local bakery since it was founded in 1947. Its unique texture, with a fluffy exterior and a moist and chewy interior, has made it so popular that it is said "there is no Atami resident who doesn't know about it."
The variety of flavors, such as smooth bean paste, pumpkin, and chocolate, is also a reason for its popularity, and there are about 14 types in total, including seasonal limited edition products. Each flavor of sauce is kneaded into the bottom of the dough in a swirling shape, and a simple sweetness spreads in your mouth.

Due to various circumstances, the restaurant went out of business for a time, but in response to the voices of fans hoping for its revival, it reopened as Atami Hoteiya in 2007 inside the MaxValu Atami store. Staff/staff member who worked at the original store were transferred to the restaurant, and they have continued to protect the nostalgic taste of the past by recreating not only the ingredients but also the kitchen of Hoteiya.

"Coffee Jelly" is a jelly made from coffee brewed with freshly ground beans, combined with bean paste. 6Enmeido "hot spring Enmei Manju"

A classic souvenir from hot spring towns is hot spring manju. Nowadays, it is sold all over Japan, but it is said to have originated at Enmeido in Atami.
The "hot spring Enmei Manju" comes in two varieties: a cha manju made with Okinawan brown sugar, and a shiro manju made with smooth bean paste and white honey. The simple flavor has been loved by literary figures who have vacation homes in Atami.

8Ham house Grimm "Ham & Sausage"

Ham house Grimm is a ham and sausage specialty store located about 20 minutes by car from Atami in the direction of Mishima. Recommended items include sausages such as the gold medal-winning "Frankfurter" and "German Wiener". 9Uokyu "Homemade dried fish"

This fresh fish shop on a hill near Izusan Shrine is a hidden gem known only to those in the know. In addition to fresh seafood caught at Izusan Port, the store also stocks homemade dried fish and hand-made side dishes.

If you buy fresh fish, they will fillet it on the spot and make it into a seafood marinated rice bowl for you (eating and drinking is not allowed inside the store).
