Hamamatsu is home to a wide variety of sweets, both old and new, Japanese and Western, made with fresh fruit and inventive ideas, including daifuku, a type of sweet made with the city's famous mandarin oranges. We will also introduce some of Hamamatsu's most popular sweets shops, including a pioneering long-established cheesecake shop and a famous Baumkuchen shop that is famous throughout the country.
1Jiichiro Ohiradai Main Branch

Jiichiro first appeared in 2002 and quickly became famous. Jiichiro's Baumkuchen is said to have changed the concept of Baumkuchen, and is a gem of a product made by layering 24 extremely thin layers without ever leaving the store. It combines a "moist" and "heavy" texture never experienced before, and the sweet and gentle taste that spreads in the mouth has captivated many people and gained more fans.
Now, they have many stores in commercial Property in Shizuoka Prefecture, the Kanto region, and the Kansai region. In their flagship store in the suburbs of Hamamatsu City, where they started, they offer not only Baumkuchen, but also standard products such as puddings, roll cakes, and rusks, as well as limited edition items, making it a worthwhile visit.
The famous Baumkuchen is even more delicious when served on the cafe menu.

Jiichiro Ohiradai Main Branch also has a cafe space. The cafe has a very comfortable atmosphere with its striking red chairs and dark brown lattice walls and floors, creating a retro atmosphere. Here, you can enjoy Jiichiro's Baumkuchen desserts along with their special coffee made with ice-temperature aged beans brewed in a siphon. The freshly cut Baumkuchen is served with whipped cream and blueberry jam, and is so delicious that you can't help but smile when you eat it. There are also a variety of other sweets on the menu, such as the "Roll Cake Set" and the "Freshly Baked Crispy Apple Pie Set."

2Marutaya May One Ekimachi Store

Marutaya Confectionery, which has been making Western-style sweets in Hamamatsu since 1949 (Showa 24), began selling cheesecake in 1964 (Showa 39), the year of the Tokyo Olympics. At the time, cheesecake was almost unfamiliar, but Marutaya was a pioneer in bringing it to the world, and is well-known in Hamamatsu as "Marutaya Cheesecake." The cheesecake, which has had the same taste for over 50 years, is three-layered. On top of the crispy cookie dough is rich cream cheese made from Danish cheese, which is topped with refreshingly sour sour cream, creating an overwhelming balance of richness and sourness. Furthermore, the cookie dough is made using a special blend of dough from Marutaya's other specialty, Ageshio Cookies.
Boxed cheesecake as a souvenir

Marutaya has five stores in Hamamatsu City, but if you want to take home souvenirs, the Marutaya Mei-One Ekimachi store on the first floor of Mei-One, located across from the ticket counter for conventional trains inside JR Hamamatsu Station, is convenient. Their signature cheesecake, ageshio cookies, roll cakes, baked goods, and more are on sale.
We recommend the "Cheese Box," a triple-layered combination of crispy cookie dough, baked cheesecake, and sour cream. This rectangular cheesecake was designed as a souvenir and is easy to carry around, and has been popular for over 10 years. The aroma and flavor of the cheese fills your mouth, and the sour cream combine to create an exquisite taste. It also has a refreshing aftertaste, making it delicious until the very end.

3Japanese sweets shop Shizuhana

Despite being located on an alleyway on the outskirts of Kanzanji hot spring town, close to the shores of Lake Hamana, this famous Japanese sweets shop is known for having long queues. The main attraction for visitors is the "Strawberry Drops," which are sold in limited quantities for a limited time only from December to the end of March. This masterpiece is made by wrapping a whole "Akihime" strawberry bean paste in gyuhi. The chewy texture creates a perfect balance between the sweet and sour strawberries and the light sweetness of the bean paste, making it so delicious you can eat as many as you like.
It is a popular item that sells out even if it sells about 1000 pieces a day, so people line up from 7am during the sales period. To be sure to get your hands on "Strawberry Drops", we recommend that you make a reservation in advance starting one month before your trip.
Experience the quality of classic Japanese sweets by comparing their tastes

Outside of the sales period of "Strawberry Drops," the main sweet from June to November is "Budou no Sasayaki," grapes such as Kyoho and Muscat wrapped in white bean paste and gyuhi. This is also a popular item that has people lining up, and the popping juicy grapes, soft gyuhi, and light bean paste go perfectly together.
In addition to the limited-time items, there is also a wide selection of mochi sweets and dumplings such as "Mame Daifuku" and "Mitarashi Dango". Why not take a stroll around Kanzanji hot spring and enjoy comparing the tastes of different Japanese sweets?

Currently, the fifth generation is running the main store on the shores of Lake Hamana. They are particular about the ingredients they use, such as red beans from Nakayabu Farm in Obihiro, Hokkaido, naturally grown rice from Nouken in Iwata City, Ena chestnuts, and Naruto Kintoki. Furthermore, they have received training from Swiss pastry master Wolf Gang Paul Goetze in making Western-style sweets, and produce high-quality sweets, both Japanese and Western.
Local specialty mandarin oranges made into sweets

Among the many products, Irikawaya's signature product is the "Mikan Monaka," which has been popular for 60 years. Mikkabi is Shizuoka's representative mandarin orange producing region. This is a masterpiece that uses this local specialty in a luxurious way. The light and fragrant monaka shell is filled with plenty of fresh, fragrant, and mild-tasting mandarin bean paste. The mandarin orange color is achieved without the use of coloring agents, a testament to the skills of this long-established store.
They are also keen to develop new products, and if you visit the store, you should definitely try their "Mikkabi Mikan Soft Serve Ice Cream." Made with five times the concentrated juice of Mikkabi Mikan, its rich taste is popular with people who enjoy cycling along the lakeside.

6San Raphael Entetsu Department Store

For over 20 years, Saint Raphael has been based in a lush green area on the outskirts of Hamamatsu City. It has become well-established in the local area as a famous French pastry shop. At Saint Raphael Entetsu Department Store, located on the first basement floor of Entetsu Department Store in front of Hamamatsu Station, you can easily purchase the same lineup of sweets as the main store, including fresh sweets, baked donuts, bread, and chocolate.
The shop's "Angel Cream Puffs" are consistently popular and are often featured in the local media. The crispy choux pastry is packed to the brim with fluffy custard cream. When you bite into the cream, the refreshing aroma and refined sweetness of vanilla beans fills your mouth. It's a delicious treat that's both rich and has a light aftertaste, making it delicious down to the last bite, and you'll find yourself reaching for another one.
Trying new genres and styles

In addition to our standard products, we also focus on developing new, original products.
The "Strange Sweets Series" is a unique series that has been much talked about. It is a series of sweets that imitate Hamamatsu specialties such as gyoza, unaju, katsudon, kaisendon, and ramen, skillfully recreating them using roll cakes, marzipan, chocolate, Mont Blanc, and more. They are acclaimed not only for their appearance, but also for the deliciousness that can only be found in a French pastry shop. Their unexpectedness makes them perfect souvenirs.
In addition, the "Hamamatsu Yaki Donut Angel Ring" is carefully baked in the oven without being fried, and is popular for its moist texture and gentle sweetness.
