OMO7 Kochi by Hoshino Resorts – Let’s have a blast, “Yosakoi”!

The famous Yosakoi Matsuri is held every night in Kochi. Our hotel re-opening on June 13th, 2024, recreates the vibrant and lively partying ambiance of the city during festivals.

OMO7 Kochi by Hoshino Resorts will open reservations from January 11th, 2024. It is the first hotel from the brand OMO by Hoshino Resorts (city tourism focused hotels) to be established in the Shikoku region, and it is located in the heart of the city of Kochi where one can best feel the culture and history of the place. The hotel concept is “Let’s have a blast, Yosakoi!” (*1), and the hotel will provide various services for guests to fully enjoy the city of Kochi. The re-opening date is set to June 13th, 2024.
*1 “Yosakoi” means “Come and visit at night” in the local dialect.

A new interior design set to reflect Kochi’s nature and Yosakoi Matsuri culture
As part of the OMO7 hotels, thriving to become landmarks of the city, OMO7 Kochi will have a restaurant, a public bath and an OMO Base, a lounge designed to be a base of operations for our travelers. The concept of the hotel, “Let’s have a blast, Yosakoi!” is a reference to the local dialect and culture. The city of Kochi has a unique social gathering and hospitality culture called the "okyaku" culture, where people socialize with food and drinks. Everyone is referred to as guests without distinction, and the city is mainly known for its famous Yosakoi festival, featuring an iconic lively dance. Following our concept, we invite guests to “have a blast” experiencing Kochi city and its people. Every evening, our staff will dance and perform their own Yosakoi Matsuri Show at the OMO Base. Guests will experience Kochi’s warm hospitality through the hotel rooms and our OMO Dining will allow them to fully enjoy local food culture. At the end of a long day, they can relax from their trip at our public bath with an outdoor bath, allowing them to feel the nature of Kochi. Our staff, very fond of the local culture, will do their best to offer the guests a memorable stay.

OMO Base: a space reflecting Kochi’s festive atmosphere. Base is a public space that includes a lobby, lounge, café, and other features. Its grandiose stairs leading from the ground floor to the second floor are unique with vibrant colors giving a festive atmosphere. The seats on the side of the stairs, designed as steps to blend in, are meant to be used as a place to chat, plan a trip, and spend time as one wishes.

Go-KINJO(*2): A service to fully enjoy the city
Go-KINJO is a unique type of service proposed by the OMO brand, to learn more about the city and feel its charm through new discoveries. We created the “Local Guide Activity” (otherwise known as Go-KINJO activity) with the help of local people, as well as an original Go-KINJO map with some information that cannot be found in guidebooks. On top of this, our staff performs a Yosakoi Matsuri Show every night, and we will host small lectures focusing on Kochi’s unique festive culture.
*2:“Kinjo” means neighborhood in Japanese.

Local Guide Activity
We will be hosting presentations about Kochi’s culture, focusing not only on the famous tourist spots such as Kochi castle or the Hariyama Bridge, but also on more daily cultural aspects like the streetcars or the fact that Kochi has the best city streets in Japan. We will give hints on how to make the most of the travel experience and teach about spots around the hotel.

Go-KINJO MapOMO Rangers, our local guides and aficionados of the city, collect information about the neighborhood not necessarily included in guidebooks and share it on the Go-KINJO map. This map, located in the OMO Base, will allow guests to make the most of their city walks with unique information about the nearby tourist spots and OMO Rangers’ recommended shops.

Yosakoi Matsuri ShowOur staff will perform a dance every evening at the Yosakoi Matsuri Show, a recreation of the famous festival held every summer in Kochi. Using the traditional “naruko”and “furafu” (*3), five dancers will perform the classical “Seicho Yosakoi Naruko Odori” dance, but also some unique OMO7 Kochi colorful dances with matching melodies. The dances are produced by the leading figure of Yosakoi Naruko Odori, Yuuichiro Kunimoto, from the SUGA JAZZ DANCE STUDIO.
(*3) “Naruko” are small wooden clappers held in the hands of each dancer, required for the traditional Yosakoi dance. “Furafu” are big flags with a huge fish as a motif. During the Yosakoi Festival, they are held behind the dancing teams and waved around so the crowd cheers up.

Experience Kochi food culture at OMO DiningThe dining is buffet-style with a rich and varied menu themed around the Tosa province in the south of Shikoku. Colorful dishes will be disposed on the buffet and made to look like “Sawachi cuisine,” a festive Kochi specialty that uses round platters for its presentation. We will serve various dishes, from classic to innovative, while using a range of ingredients with respect to the Kochi culinary tradition.

For dinner, classics from Kochi will be served, such as straw-grilled bonito and straw-broiled roast beef cooked in front of the customer, or dishes cooked with garlic leaves, a beloved seasoning in the Kochi region. For dessert, guests can also enjoy a make-your-own parfait with sweet potato “kempi” (deep-fried shredded sweet potato). For breakfast, we serve a variety of Kochi gourmet dishes such as bonito pickled rice bowl, yuzu confiture French toast, and a soft ice cream made with sweet potato tempura, a popular item in the street market.

Heal the fatigue of travel at the Public BathThe bath area has a public outdoor and indoor bath, and a sauna. The outdoor bath is inspired by the rich nature of Kochi's rural lands, to unwind from a long trip. The indoor bath features a mural depicting Kochi's “furafu,” a handmade craft that uses large cotton cloth dyed brightly on canvas. At the entrance, made to look like an attendant's booth, visitors are greeted by a Tosa dog figure. In the Yuagari lounge, we will serve refreshing drinks of Kochi seasonal citrus fruits and cold-brewed tea, to cool off.

A variety of guest rooms to fit the needs of allThere are 8 types of rooms, and 133 rooms in total. They can be chosen to fit the needs of the travelers, and all rooms have a no-shoe policy. The most original guest room is the Utage Suite, a concept room based on Kochi's social gathering and hospitality culture or "okyaku" culture.  To experience this culture in the rooms, we will offer a set of Kochi's sake served in traditional sake cups called bekuhai and local finger foods.
