Modeled on 17th-century accommodations built to host feudal lords, this hot spring ryokan is perfectly located for riverside walks and excursions into historic Nagato Yumoto.Highlights
The highly alkaline waters of Nagato Yumoto Hot Spring—said to have been discovered thanks to a message from the gods—rejuvenate the skin and flow continuously into the baths here.
For 800 years, regional artisans have crafted inkstones from local Akamaga stone, known for producing ink of the highest quality. Guests are invited to make ink on one such inkstone and try their hand at calligraphy.
The ryokan is in Yamagata, a temperate prefecture with the ocean on three sides—making it rich in seafood and citrus fruits. These ingredients are featured prominently in the dinners here.
