The KERA-IKE Ice Rink is an outdoor skating rink created by the freezing of “Kera Pond” in the forest. Kera Pond is adjacent to the “Karuizawa Wild Bird Forest,” an environment where many wild birds and animals inhabit. This rink is the earliest outdoor ice rink to open in Japan (according to our research) with the concept of “a skating rink where you can feel the forest.” In October, you can enjoy skating while viewing the bright red maple leaves, and in early November, the yellow leaves of the larch trees, as if you were taking a walk on ice.
“Special seats for viewing autumn leaves” have been prepared so that you can enjoy the autumn leaves even while skating. You can place the specially prepared benches anywhere you like while skating. The area in front of the pond is recommended. You can spend time in an open space while viewing the surrounding trees and the autumn leaves reflected on the water’s surface.
Viewing autumn leaves special seats: Free
This year, for the first time, a bar will appear in the rink. A special “oshiruko bar” will be set up, accessible only to those wearing skates, serving “Kuma-san Shiruko” (bear-shaped oshiruko). The oshiruko is made with red bean paste and chestnuts, shaped like a bear that lives in the Karuizawa forest, to warm up your body chilled by skating at the “special seats for viewing autumn leaves.”
Kuma-san Shiruko: 800 yen (tax included)
