From the morning market to the after-dark views: a stay to fully enjoy the lesser-known aspects of Hakodate, not just the well-trodden paths!
The brand "OMO," for city tourism hotels, will soon open a new place. OMO5 Hakodate by Hoshino Resorts will open on July 6th, 2024 in Hakodate, Hokkaido. Located about a five-minute walk from Hakodate Station, facing the historic entertainment district, the hotel will serve as a base for Hakodate tourism. The concept is “120% Hakodate.” It proposes a unique lodging experience that fully embraces the allure of Hakodate, including its unique seafood, the night view from Mount Hakodate, and the charming, historic streets and extensive local attractions. Reservations will start on February 21, 2024, via the official website.
Concept - “120% Hakodate”
Hakodate is surrounded by the sea on three sides and is blessed with fresh seafood throughout the year thanks to its abundant fishing grounds. Furthermore, having opened in the late Edo period and developed into Japan's first international trading port, Hakodate boasts a long history. Even today, it features many historical buildings and streets that evoke a sense of the exotic. The night view from Mount Hakodate, often described as having “a million-dollar beauty,” continues to be a beloved tourist spot. However, attractions like the morning market, which the locals have cherished for 70 years, the scattered historical landmarks, and the lively food stalls accompanying the night view are still full of undiscovered charm. At OMO5 Hakodate, we propose a stay to fully enjoy the city of Hakodate. The concept of “120% Hakodate” embodies our hope for guests to fully savor Hakodate, from the morning market to nighttime after the night view, exploring both well-known and hidden attractions and charms.

OMO Base (Travelers' Fun Lounge) Tailored for Every Moment, from Day to Night
OMO Base is a public space packed with features that seamlessly connect the hotel with the city, available for use anytime from day to night. It includes the OMO Cafe & Bar, offering original sweets inspired by Hakodate, a relaxing post-bath area for unwinding after enjoying the hot springs, and an outdoor terrace designed with the ambiance of Hakodate's sea and fishing lights, complete with a fireplace. This space is full of inventive features to enhance the enjoyment of Hakodate tourism.
Spending Time at OMO Base After the Night View and Hot Springs
The night in Hakodate is not only illuminated by the night view from Mount Hakodate but also by the famous fishing lights of squid fishing boats. The lighting, inspired by the lights of fishing boats along the sea, creates a nighttime atmosphere for after-the-night views and hot springs. Inside the OMO Base, post-bath drinks are available, allowing guests to relax and rehydrate after enjoying the natural hot springs.
Enjoy Hakodate with the “Go-KINJO” Service
“Go-KINJO” is a service by the OMO brand that supports guests in blending into the city through new discoveries and encounters within walking distance from the hotel. It centers around two types of main content: “Go-KINJO Activities,” organized in collaboration with the community by staff who love the neighborhood, and the “Go-KINJO Map (Local Guide Map),” a collection of information found by staff members. These offerings allow guests a fuller experience during their stay.
Go-KINJO Activity: “Utterly Satisfied! Morning Market Specialty Shop Tour”
Hotel staff who love their local neighborhood, known as “(Local Guide) OMO Rangers,” will guide guests through the “Hakodate Open Market,” which has about 70 years of history in Hakodate. The market is lined with about 40 shops, including fresh fish stores and greengrocers, and is always bustling with locals, serving as the “kitchen of the citizens.” A characteristic feature of the market is the presence of many specialty shops for different types of fish, guaranteeing high quality. It is also known as a market where local chefs come to procure their ingredients, recognized as a “professional purveyor market.”
The market is busiest around 9:00 AM, which is when guests will head there with an OMO Ranger. As the OMO Ranger guides guests through the market, they will take them around the stores, asking each for their recommended fish of the day. A special feature of this tour is the opportunity to taste freshly prepared seafood, allowing guests to shop confidently while comparing the offerings of different stores.
