Shizuoka Mirume Tea Stay at KAI Enshu

A Two-Day Retreat to Soothe Your Senses with 17 Varieties of Sweet, Freshly Picked New Tea

Hoshino Resorts KAI Enshu, a hot spring ryokan themed around sencha located in Kanzanji Onsen, Shizuoka Prefecture, will offer the "Shizuoka Mirume Tea Stay" from May 15 to June 30, 2025, allowing guests to thoroughly enjoy the flavors of spring in one of Japan's leading tea-producing regions. This two-day, one-night stay during the new tea season in Shizuoka Prefecture, a well-known tea region, will provide a full experience of Shizuoka's new tea through activities such as comparative new tea tasting, tea pairing, and "gougumi" (tea blending), where guests can blend their own tea leaves.

Background
The peak season for Shizuoka tea is May and June. Tea picked during this time is characterized by the sweetness accumulated during the harsh winter and the fresh aroma of young leaves. The refreshing aroma unique to new tea is a precious experience that can only be enjoyed for about two months after processing. This program is developed to allow guests to enjoy new tea in various forms during its peak season.

Feature 1: "Shizuoka New Tea Blending Experience" - Blend Your Own Tea Leaves
This activity involves combining tea leaves from different production areas and with varying degrees of steaming. At KAI Enshu, we offer over 20 varieties of Shizuoka's new tea. Guests can create and taste their own original tea blends. The tea blended by the guests will be served using Moriyama ware, a type of pottery with over 500 years of history in Shizuoka, along with seasonal fresh confectionery from the local confectionery shop Ganyudo. Guests can also take their blended tea home to enjoy at their leisure.

Feature 2: Tea Pairing Course to Complement Japanese KAI Local Flavors [Power Up]During dinner, we offer a pairing course exclusive to this plan, where guests can enjoy various sencha teas, including new tea, to complement the KAI Local Flavors. This tea pairing course, featuring a combination of five types of sencha and dishes, is a delight for both the palate and the eyes.

Feature 3: Enjoy Three Types of New Tea in a Room Decorated with New Tea-Patterned Enshu Cotton Fabric
The guest room for this programme will be a Suite room with an outdoor hot spring overlooking Lake Hamana, decorated with Enshu Cotton Fabric, a local traditional craft made by Nukumori Kobo. All the fabric patterns are given unique names such as "Fuji," "Rikyu," and "AkiaKane," and feature soft colors and striped patterns. Nukumori Kobo and KAI Enshu have jointly developed a "new tea" pattern that is used on cushions and bedding, evokeing a vibrant and soothing tea garden landscape. In this space, guests can enjoy tea tailored to 3 different moments of their stay: arrival, before bedtime, and upon waking.
