Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Nasu opened on November 1st, 2019, at the foot of Mount Nasu, in the northern part of the Tochigi Prefecture, at an altitude of about 500m, and has a site of about 139,000m². This is the fourth facility in the RISONARE brand. The concept of this resort is an "Agriturismo Resort." A new style of travel is offered where guests can enjoy meals and various activities at a resort hotel, with a focus on experiencing local production activities.
Concept - Agriturismo Resort
"Agriturismo" is an expression coined from the Italian words “agricoltura" (agriculture) and "turismo" (tourism). It is a form of tourism in which local farming experiences, natural experiences, and cultural exchange are enjoyed in an area away from the bustle of the city. It is said to have originated in Europe, and is enjoyed around the world, mainly in Italy. The Nasu area, where the resort is located, has an abundant natural environment and prosperous crop production activities. The concept is an "Agriturismo Resort," which promotes "local charm combined with a resort stay" as a new style of travel, such as meals and activities at a resort hotel, with a focus on experiencing local production activities.
Activities
Farmer's Lesson
At the Agri Garden, the resort's staff practices a series of farming tasks, from tilling fields to making fertilizers, sowing vegetables and herbs, and harvesting, based on organic farming methods advised by local producers. This daily program teaches guests about the farm work they need to do on a given day, rather than focusing on the farming experience as just a harvest experience.
In addition, the Green House, where herbs are grown, offers workshops inspired by farmers' lives named the "Farmers' Handwork," as well as "Original Herb Tea Making," where you can enjoy blending your favorite herbs.
Playing in Nature
The activities facility, POKO POKO, is the resort's central hub. RISONARE Nasu offers a number of activities that make use of the vast land of about 139,000 m². Adults and children alike can enjoy such experiences as strolling through the fresh green forest in spring, catching insects in the rice fields and woods in the summer, making crafts using fallen leaves in autumn, and playing in the snow in winter.
Rooms
The guest rooms combine the comfort and sophisticated space design of a resort with natural surroundings. 43 guest rooms are interspersed within a vast natural forest, and there are 10 room types The guests can feel the changing seasons and nature nearby from any room. The interior was designed by "Klein Dytham architecture" (KDa), who designed the guest rooms for RISONARE Yatsugatake, Atami, and Osaka.
Special Facilities
POKO POKO, a base for nature activities
After the long bridge from the entrance to the main building, there is a building with a characteristic three-cone roof in the forest. In addition to BOOKS&CAFE, the facility has a play area, which consists of a netted play area with a total length of about 6.5m, a ball pool, and a nursery. As a weatherproof facility, this is a space that even families with small children can enjoy. In front of the facility is a terrace where guests can relax around a fireplace, and the "POKO POKO Square," has a sofa bed. Along with the distinctive architecture, the promenade, which continues from the bridge, is designed to meander through the forest so that guests can fully enjoy a walk between the main building and the annex.
About the design of POKO POKO
Architectural design - Klein Dytham architecture (KDa)
The structure of POKO POKO is characterized by the three large roofs, which literally means "bump out" ("poko-poko"). The goal was a design that combines the unique appearance of overlapping cones that amplify the presence of the building while blending into the surrounding forest of Nasu and a gentleness that makes any generation feel comfortable. During the day, it has an iconic presence that soars among the trees, and during the night, light overflows from the entire surface of the building, making it seem as if only the roof was floating in the darkness. The wooden structure supporting this large roof has a rhythmic design of combined logs, creating a friendly and comfortable space. During the day, natural light pours in from the large roof windows, connecting the space with the outdoor deck and creating a spacious impression, while in the evening, it becomes a warm space enveloped in soft light among the shadows of the trees.
Landscape design - Studio Terra
When creating the place, the resort puts effort into carefully weaving the pre-existing properties and memories of the land. The altitude of this land exceeds 500m, and it is located between the mountainous and the plain areas. Because of that, a rich river flows from the mountains through the site, and deciduous broad-leaved forests of trees such as Chonowski's hornbeam, jolcham oak, and Mongolian oak spread through the land. Because of the high altitude, there is a large difference in temperature, and guests can enjoy more vivid and beautiful autumn foliage and scenery of fresh verdure. The site also contains farms and rice fields, and their appearance changes yearly. The resort has improved the roads and conducted reforestation to connect various places on the site, and it continues to nurture the landscape over time. Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Nasu hopes guests will often come and enjoy that change and growth.
BOOKS & CAFE
BOOKS&CAFE, located inside POKO POKO, offers authentic Italian pizza baked in a brick oven for lunch. There is also a cafe menu. In addition, a pizza-making experience is held for a limited number of groups per day. Guests can enjoy pizza they themselves made with toppings in which a part of the vegetables and herbs from the Agri-garden is used.
Food & Beverages
Some of the vegetables and herbs grown in the agri garden are used in workshops, as well as in our restaurants and cafes, depending on the season and yield. At the main dining room "OTTO SETTE NASU," the buffet restaurant "SHAKI SHAKI," and the "Books & Cafe" inside "POKO POKO," guests can enjoy various food experiences, such as Italian courses, buffet-style meals, and pizza lunches.
OTTO SETTE NASU, the main dining restaurant
This is the third "OTTO SETTE" restaurant following the ones in RISONARE Yatsugatake and Tomamu. Here in Nasu, local cuisine from Tuscany, Italy, is elevated to a full course. The ingredients are the seasonal ingredients that local producers grew with great care. Guests can enjoy Italian natural wine selected by a sommelier along with the cuisine. This is a special dinner at a restaurant inside a forest.
