Hoshino Resorts BEB5 Tsuchiura, Hoshino Resorts' only cycling-themed hotel, will hold "BEB UpCYCLE Christmas" from December 1st to 25th, 2024, featuring an ecological Christmas with recycled wheels and tires. This year, guests can enjoy "Charix," a limited-time activity where they can create socks by pedaling a bicycle. The "UpCYCLE Tree," a Christmas tree made from discarded bicycle wheels and tires, will also make a comeback. The public space "TAMARIBA" will be transformed into a Christmas-themed space with a bicycle motif. Experience a unique Christmas with decorations and activities unlike any other, all while embracing the holiday spirit.
Background
Ibaraki Prefecture is blessed with a rich natural environment, including rolling mountains, rivers, and coastlines. With the "Tsukuba Kasumigaura Ring Ring Road" designated as a National Cycle Route in November 2019, cycling tourism initiatives are thriving in the prefecture. However, the rise in cycling popularity leads to an increase in discarded bicycle parts due to upgrades and maintenance. Therefore, BEB5 Tsuchiura, a hotel designed for cycling enthusiasts, decided to hold this event to upcycle discarded bicycle wheels and tires, offering guests a new way to enjoy bicycles.
Feature 1: Utilizing Discarded Bicycle Parts! "UpCYCLE Tree" and "UpCYCLE Wreath"
Christmas trees are an essential part of the holiday season. During "BEB UpCYCLE Christmas," "TAMARIBA" will feature an "UpCYCLE Tree" and "UpCYCLE Wreath" made from upcycled bicycle wheels and tires. These colorful creations, crafted from various sizes of bicycle wheels, will enhance the Christmas atmosphere.
Feature 2: Pedal Your Way to Original Socks with "Charix" [NEW]
"Charix by SOUKI," a machine that allows you to create socks by pedaling a bicycle, will be available at TAMARIBA. "Charix" is an upcycled sock knitting machine combined with a bicycle. Not only is the machine upcycled, but the yarn used for knitting is also dyed using an upcycling process. Guests can experience sock making using yarn dyed with dyes extracted from agricultural waste, produced by Ibaraki-based "futashiba248." Hang your finished socks on your doorknob before bed, and you might wake up to a pleasant surprise!
Feature 3: Wheel-Shaped Christmas Sweets "Chari-shu"
"TAMARIBA" cafe will offer the original Christmas sweets "Chari-shu." "Chari-shu" is a Paris-Brest, a ring-shaped cream puff inspired by bicycle tires, originally created in France to commemorate a bicycle race. Its adorable appearance makes it perfect for photos!
