Discovering the World of Okinawan Pottery, “Yachimun,” with Banta Cafe and OMO5 Okinawa Naha by Hoshino Resorts

Explore Okinawa this autumn through the colorful and unique world of "Yachimun."

Hoshino Resorts presents a unique autumn experience centered around Okinawan pottery, or "Yachimun," in collaboration between its two properties: Banta Cafe, a seaside cafe with breathtaking ocean views, and OMO5 Okinawa Naha, a city tourism hotel that helps guests uncover Naha City's hidden charms. Located in Yomitan Village, the heart of Okinawa’s pottery culture, Banta Cafe will host the “Seaside Yachimun Market” from November 1 to 24, 2025, showcasing works from pottery studios across Okinawa. On weekends, visitors can also meet artisans in person at a special pop-up market.
At OMO5 Okinawa Naha, the special guest room “Yachimun Room” features a wall adorned with 100 Yachimun pottery pieces, inviting guests to discover their favorites and even try using them. Some of the works are by studios that also take part in the "Seaside Yachimun Market," giving guests a rare chance to meet the artisans during the event. Reflecting Okinawa’s open and creative spirit, Yachimun ranges from timeless traditions to vibrant modern designs.

The "Yachimun Room": A Gallery of 100 Unique Works
Opened in November 2024, the Yachimun Room at OMO5 Okinawa Naha invites guests to stay in a space designed like a gallery, showcasing over 100 pottery pieces from traditional to modern styles. Guests can touch and explore each work, using the “Yachimun Guide” to learn about the artists and plan their own pottery tour. This experience is especially delightful in fall and winter when pottery markets fill Okinawa with color and creativity, turning a simple stay into a journey of art and connection.

"Seaside Yachimun Market": Chat with Artisans by the Ocean
Leveraging its stunning seaside location, Banta Cafe hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including the "Seaside Yachimun Market" in autumn. Now in its sixth year, the event features pottery from studios across Okinawa. Each weekend, different artists showcase their work on the breezy Seaside Terrace, some also featured in the Yachimun Room at OMO5 Okinawa Naha, offering guests a rare chance to meet the makers and discover new favorites.

Enjoy Yachimun with Banta Cafe's Seasonal Menu
During the event, Banta Cafe will serve a limited-time menu inspired by Yachimun traditions, featuring a Yushibin Tea Set and other pottery-themed sweets. The Yushibin, a traditional awamori bottle once used for celebrations, is now crafted by only a few studios. For this event, the cafe collaborated with young potters to create modern interpretations of these iconic vessels. Guests can enjoy tea and sweets served in the special Yushibin, along with cookies featuring Yachimun patterns and a crispy "Noborigama Cornet" inspired by the climbing kilns used to fire the pottery. It’s a relaxing and delicious way to experience the spirit of Yachimun.

Immerse Yourself in Yachimun Culture
Yomitan Village, where Banta Cafe is located, is known as a hub of Okinawan pottery with more than 70 studios, including the renowned Yachimun no Sato, home to 19 studios. Near OMO5 Okinawa Naha, Tsuboya Yachimun Street preserves a historic climbing kiln from the Ryukyu Kingdom era and is lined with studios, shops, and galleries showcasing pottery from across Okinawa. Visitors can join pottery workshops or simply stroll the street to explore diverse styles and craftsmanship.
