This autumn, escape the ordinary and immerse in the rich cultural tapestry, spiritual heritage, and vibrant seasonal bounties of Japan’s southern paradise. From September through November 2026, HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island and HOSHINOYA Okinawa offer exclusive autumn programs designed to connect deeply with the true spirit of the islands through traditional music, sacred rituals, craft workshops, and culinary excellence.

Autumn is the most significant time of year to experience the local lifestyle on Taketomi Island, which is anchored by the community philosophy of Utsugumi, the spirit of mutual cooperation. Because the island was formed from raised coral reef, its thin soil historically made agriculture remarkably challenging. Survival in this environment relied on community collaboration and a deep connection to nature, leading the islanders to create a unique calendar that tracks the seasons by the names of local winds and expresses their gratitude through 22 annual festivals scheduled by the Chinese zodiac to safeguard their way of life.
To share this heritage, HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island will offer "Akikaji Island Time" (Akikaji meaning autumn wind) from September 1 to November 30, 2026, highlighting the island's preserved agricultural customs and seasonal arts.
