Prior to the stay, the reservation holder will share the purpose of the stay and the message they want to deliver to the loved ones with the HOSHINOYA Tokyo staff and the ikebana artist, who will then propose flower arrangements to adorn the ryokan. This collaborative effort creates a truly unique space, designed with the guest of honor in mind. HOSHINOYA Tokyo staff will suggest spring flowers that are in full bloom during the stay, based on the traditional Japanese “flower calendar” (*3) and the “Shichijuni-ko,” which marks the passage of 72 seasons in five-day intervals. The ikebana artist will consult with the reservation holder to determine the types, quantity, and arrangement of flowers to best reflect their desired experience. This collaborative approach ensures a personalized and meaningful experience for all.

Indulge in a luxurious and relaxing experience with safflower, a flower whose language conveys the meaning of “special person.” The spa treatment incorporates herbal balls (*4) wrapped in safflower-dyed tenugui towels. These warm and gently massage tense muscles, relieving both physical and mental stress, and guiding guests towards ultimate relaxation. Following the treatment, guests can enjoy a cup of safflower tea as an after-drink, with its subtle sweetness and elegant aroma further enhancing the sense of tranquility. The experience concludes with the “Komachi-beni Rogue experience,” where guests can try applying traditional Japanese lipstick made from safflower. Known for its iridescent sheen, “Komachi-beni” was a luxury item coveted by women in the Edo period. The crimson color also symbolizes warding off evil and wishing for happiness, and there is a long-standing tradition of gifting beni on important life occasions. This unique experience allows guests to connect with such anticipation and meaning through the allure of “Komachi-beni” that captivated women in the Edo period.

The following day, guests can participate in the “Flower Box Making” activity, creating an original flower box filled with blooms chosen with their loved one in mind. This activity, exclusive to the “Blooming Affections” stay, allows guests to reflect on the messages conveyed through each flower as they carefully select and arrange them in a paulownia wood box. The completed flower box can be displayed in the guest room or taken home as a heartwarming gift. By exchanging flower boxes created with each other in mind, guests can cherish the memories of their stay long after they return home.
