Path of Blessings: Izumo Taisha Ritual Experience

-
The Izumo area in Shimane Prefecture, known as the Land of Japan's Myths, is home to the historic shrine "Izumo Taisha," famous for bringing good relationships and fortune. It is a sacred and special shrine where Japan’s myriad gods are said to gather once a year. To celebrate the year’s end and to welcome the new one, this special package combines carefully curated rituals and a visit to Izumo Taisha to invite good luck in the year ahead.

Features

1A Blessing Ceremony at Hinomisaki Shrine

Izumo Taisha enshrines Okuninushi-no-Mikoto, the central deity of Izumo mythology, while his ancestor, Susanoo-no-Mikoto, is enshrined at Hinomisaki Shrine, located near KAI Izumo. After check-in, enjoy some sake to refresh your body and mind, followed by a traditional blessing ceremony at Hinomisaki Shrine to purify and calm your mind in preparation for your visit to Izumo Taisha the next day.

2Onsen Purification Ritual and a Special Breakfast

On the morning of your second day, start with a purifying onsen bath following the myth of misogi, where the gods are said to have cleansed themselves in the sea. Then enjoy the exclusive “Shinsen Breakfast,” inspired by offerings to the gods, to charge energy before visiting Izumo Taisha. Guest rooms are also equipped with various items such as an original Goshuincho (temple/shrine stamp book) and a paper lucky charm to maximize your shrine experience.

3Discover Izumo’s Charms and Welcome Good Fortune at Izumo Taisha

Conclude your stay with a private, two-hour guided tour of Izumo Taisha, led by a professional guide well-versed in Izumo’s history and mythology. Learn about the shrine’s sacred rituals, hear the legendary stories behind it, and gain a deeper understanding of its cultural significance.
