OMO5 Otaru by Hoshino Resorts opened on 7 January 2022 in Otaru, Hokkaido under the city tourism brand OMO. Its concept is “scenic canal strolls in a retro port town,” where guests are encouraged to explore the Otaru canal and warehouse district dotted with glassworks and other artisan’s studios, cafés, a sake brewery, and more. On a morning stroll around the wharf, the lively calls of fishermen bringing in the day’s catch of herring can be heard and savored back at the hotel as a specialty featured on our menus

About OMO5 Otaru
Located in an area with many historical structures and buildings, this city-tourism hotel consists of two buildings: the south wing, a renovation of the former Otaru Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the north wing, designed for functionality and design. Otaru is a port city, where it has developed into an economic center of finance and trading companies standing side by side as a gateway to Hokkaido. Today, Otaru is a popular day-trip destination amongst travelers to Sapporo but we aim to make Otaru a destination for stays to discover the charms of the city’s history, culture, and food. The GO-KINJO Map, an original map of the neighborhood with recommendations by staff members, can be found at the OMO Base, a public space that includes the front desk and lounge. Through the local guide tour with OMO Rangers, we plan to share the hidden spots and culture of Otaru. Meet the warm people of the city through canal strolls and discover the culture and history of Otaru!

Local Guide Tour: Overflow of sashimi on rice at the Rinyu Morning Market
The morning market is part of the lifestyle in Otaru. Within walking distance of the hotel is the Rinyu morning market, which is popular among locals from early morning. Usually, customers visit shops to collect sashimi or raw seafood to complete their kaisendon, which is raw seafood rice bowl. However, this tour is characterized by service where shop owners will serve the best, recommended toppings onto the rice bowl just by walking with OMO Rangers. There will be shops that are proudly serving homemade salmon roe marinated in soy sauce, and shops that serve fish of high value due to its rarity. Each shop will serve their specialties for the best kaisendon in Otaru to be completed.

Guest rooms to choose based on the purpose of travel
OMO5 Otaru offers several types of guest rooms so that guests can choose according to the purpose of their trip and who they are traveling with. For example, there are “superior rooms”, characterized by their retro design and spaciousness, perfect for special trips and more.
