~Rebranding to a Spot Where Visitors Can Experience the Allure of the Mountain Beyond Just Climbing, Throughout the Year~
Tanigawadake Ropeway by Hoshino Resorts and Tanigawadake Tenjinhira Ski Resort by Hoshino Resorts will undergo a name change effective December 1, 2024. They will be reborn as Tanigawadake Joch by Hoshino Resorts, a place where visitors can experience the allure of the mountain beyond just climbing throughout the year, and Mt.T by Hoshino Resorts, a field where ski bums from both Japan and abroad can have extreme experiences with the finest quality powder snow and varied terrain.
Background
Tanigawadake is an easily accessible mountain, reachable in about two hours by car or Shinkansen from the Tokyo metropolitan area. It is one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains, and despite being less than 2,000 meters high, it offers stunning views comparable to 3,000-meter-class mountains, with its steep cliffs and overlapping mountain ridges. It showcases different faces throughout the seasons: lingering snow and fresh greenery in spring and summer, autumn leaves in fall, and the finest quality powder snow in winter. Visitors can enjoy Tanigawadake in various ways, such as sightseeing, mountain climbing, and skiing/snowboarding, depending on the season.
Hoshino Resorts began operating the Tanigawadake Ropeway and Tanigawadake Tenjinhira Ski Resort in March 2022 with the theme of "mountain rebranding." During the course of operation, it became apparent that the existing facility names were not effectively communicating the appeal of these destinations to customers. Therefore, the decision was made to change the facility names to promote a new image of Tanigawadake.
Tanigawadake Joch
"Joch" is a German word meaning "col" or "saddle," which refers to a dip or depression between two mountain peaks. The Tenjinhira area, accessible by ropeway, is located on a col terrain in the middle of Tanigawadake. The name "Tanigawadake Joch" was chosen to reflect this geographical feature and to encourage a sense of familiarity with Tanigawadake. The colorful logo mark represents the changing seasons and colors of Tanigawadake. The left side of the logo represents the fresh greenery, autumn leaves and snow-covered mountains. The lower right represents gourmet food, and the upper right expresses the diverse attractions of Tanigawadake Joch, such as stars, snow, and flowers. The top of the logo depicts Tanigawadake with its lingering snow, which is the most recommended season to visit, along with the historic ropeway which opened in 1959.

The area around Mt.T has many locations with names starting with the initial "T," such as Tanigawadake, Tenjinhira, Tajirizawa, and Takakura-yama. The name "Mt.T" was chosen in the hope that it would be easily recognized and remembered by skiers and snowboarders from Japan and overseas who travel in search of high-quality powder snow. The twin peaks of Tanigawadake, surrounded by a majestic mountain range of 2,000-meter-class peaks, are covered in snow, creating a breathtakingly beautiful and fantastical scene.
