OMO7 Yokohama to Open on April 21, 2026

A legacy hotel where Yokohama’s timeless culture meets contemporary expression

Hoshino Resorts’ city-tourism brand, OMO, will open “OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts” on April 21, 2026, in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. The hotel will be part of BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai, a redevelopment project on the former site of Yokohama City Hall, located in front of JR Kannai Station. It incorporates the historic Yokohama City Hall Administrative Building, designed by Togo Murano, a leading Showa-era architect who greatly influenced the nation’s modern architecture. Under the concept of “Groove to Yokohama-ism,” OMO7 Yokohama blends the city’s rich history and culture with contemporary sensibilities—creating a space where old and new harmoniously meet.

Concept: “Groove to Yokohama-ism”

Since opening as a port city in 1859, Yokohama has thrived as a meeting point of Japanese and international cultures. As Japan’s gateway to the West, the city has long led trends in fashion, culture, and lifestyle—a source of pride for Yokohama locals, or “Hamakkos.” This spirit of embracing new ideas while honoring tradition—known as “Yokohama-ism”—defines the city. OMO7 Yokohama celebrates this charm through experiences ranging from the exotic atmosphere of Chinatown and historic Western-style buildings to beloved restaurants, lively bars, and seaside strolls. With its concept of “Groove to Yokohama-ism,” the hotel invites guests to enjoy the city’s cheerful, free-spirited energy like a true Hamakko.

■ Preserving Yokohama’s Postwar Architectural Heritage: The Former Yokohama City Hall Administrative Building
Completed in 1959 as part of the Yokohama Port Centennial Project, the former City Hall, designed by renowned architect Togo Murano, served for over 60 years as the administrative heart of the city and a familiar landmark. The Administrative Building will remain on its original site and be reborn as its legacy, creating a new hub for residents and visitors. In August 2025, it became the first postwar structure designated as a Historic Building by the City of Yokohama, recognizing its enduring role as a local symbol while blending tradition with modernity. OMO7 Yokohama will carry forward the city’s collective memory and contribute to the vibrancy of the Kannai district.

1. Exterior

The exterior of OMO7 Yokohama retains the original character of the former Yokohama City Hall, seamlessly blending into the cityscape just as it always has. The structure’s exposed concrete framework, filled with dark brown tiles, preserves its distinctive mid-century charm. While maintaining a simple, modern silhouette, the building’s façade features subtle depth and variation, creating a refined and expressive appearance.

2. OMO Base: Echoes of the Past

The hotel’s OMO Base on the first floor features special lighting inspired by the circular fixtures of the former City Council Chamber, reimagined in material and light diffusion to create a welcoming atmosphere. The iconic grand staircase of the former City Hall’s public hall has been preserved and reinterpreted, connecting the first and second floors, with elements of Togo Murano’s signature curved handrails repurposed—allowing guests to experience the building’s architectural heritage firsthand.

3. OMO Bakery

OMO Bakery preserves the original Taishan tile relief “Sea, Waves, and Ships” by sculptor Shindo Tsuji, who collaborated with architect Togo Murano. Once adorning the former Mayor’s Office entrance, the relief remains a cherished piece for Yokohama citizens. Guests can enjoy freshly baked bread in a space enriched by the relief’s layered textures and beauty, connecting the culinary experience with the building’s artistic heritage.

4. Yokohama-ism Collection: Discover Yokohama’s History

On the first floor of OMO Base, the Yokoama-ism Collection showcases Yokohama’s culture and history over the past 60 years through the preservation of the former City Hall. Highlighting international influences and the city’s unique local culture, the collection gives visitors deeper insight into Yokohama, making their city walks even more engaging and enjoyable.

5. Guest Rooms Inspired by the Former City Hall

OMO7 Yokohama offers 276 guest rooms across nine types, ranging in size from 20㎡ to 73㎡. The rooms’ theme colors — red, blue, and green — are inspired by elements of the former City Hall: red reflects the carpet of the former Mayor’s Office, blue echoes the glossy ceramic tiles inside the building, and green is drawn from the seats in the Main Council Chamber. For larger groups, the Yagura Suite, accommodating up to six guests, combines generous floor space with high ceilings, allowing families or friends to relax together comfortably in one space. The Katari-ba Room, with a maximum occupancy of four, is versatile — perfect for two guests to enjoy a spacious, luxurious stay or for four to gather around the sofa and share lively conversations. Each room type has its own character, letting visitors choose accommodations to match their travel style.

■ A Comfortable Stay for You and Your Dog

Yokohama is ideal for traveling with dogs, offering parks, waterfronts, and walkable spots. OMO7 Yokohama welcomes canine companions with three dog-friendly room types, including a suite for six guests and two dogs of any size. The hotel’s OMO Dog Garden features an outdoor run and indoor lounge, letting guests and their dogs play, relax, and enjoy their stay together.

■ OMO Bakery and OMO Dining: Adding Flavor to Your Stay in Yokohama

At OMO7, a wide range of dining options will be offered to delight guests. OMO Bakery offers cafeteria-style breakfasts and, from lunch to dinner, five varieties of curry bread, reflecting Yokohama’s curry history, and drinks in the evening. OMO Dining serves carefully crafted meals, from the luxurious “Yokohama Morning Specialties” buffet to dinner featuring local favorites like Napolitan pasta and Doria, as well as creative dishes blending Japanese, Western, and Chinese influences — perfect for light bites or drinks before or after exploring the city.

■ “Go-KINJO”: Explore Yokohama Like a Local

“Go-KINJO” is an OMO brand service designed to help guests explore the neighborhood on foot, uncover hidden gems, and fully immerse themselves in the neighborhood. The service features two key elements: the OMO Rangers, friendly local guides who share insider tips and lead engaging tours, and the Neighborhood Map, highlighting must-see spots, eateries, and unique local experiences. Ahead of the hotel’s opening, OMO Rangers are developing tours that allow visitors to explore Yokohama as if they were walking with a local friend. By following their guidance, guests can experience the city’s rich culture, vibrant streets, and hidden corners—discovering a side of Yokohama that many visitors miss.

■ “Yokohama Grooving Night”: Enjoy a Festive Evening with a Sea Breeze

At OMO7 Yokohama, guests can enjoy the evening event “Yokohama Grooving Night,” part of the OMO brand’s Local Rhythm Night series. The concept combines “Local” and “Rhythm”, allowing visitors to experience the unique atmosphere of the city through music, food, and fun activities. Held on the HAMAKAZE Terrace atop the historic former City Hall, guests can enjoy live performances spanning jazz and other genres, reflecting Yokohama’s history as the gateway of Western music in Japan. With craft beer and freshly prepared original dishes in hand, visitors can relax on the terrace, listen to music, play mini-games, or simply gaze at the city while feeling the sea breeze. Just like a festival, guests are free to enjoy the evening in their own way, creating a memorable night in Yokohama.
