ASUKA, NARA - HOSHINOYA, which offers extraordinary experiences through the unique themes of each property, will open HOSHINOYA Asuka (Asuka Village, Nara Prefecture) on July 22, 2027. As the 10th HOSHINOYA property, HOSHINOYA Asuka embodies the concept "A Sanctuary of Stillness at Japan’s Origin". Asuka Village, where Japan's first capital, "Asuka-kyo", was located, is a place where history is registered as a World Cultural Heritage site and rich nature comes alive. It features sprawling stepped gardens that capture the beauty of Asuka Village's terraced rice fields, along with single-story guest rooms that reflect scenes of tiles and stones. HOSHINOYA Asuka aims to provide a mindfulness experience that helps guests accept themselves as they are and create space in their minds. Based on a decade of collaboration between Hoshino Resorts and Asuka Village, guests are invited to a one-of-a-kind stay that harnesses the local landscape and charm. Room reservations will open on September 25, 2026.
About Asuka Village: The Birthplace of Japan
Asuka Village
Located in Nara Prefecture, Asuka Village is where Japan first emerged as a unified nation. Serving as the country's original capital long before Kyoto or Tokyo, this serene countryside is packed with ancient history. Highlights include Asuka-dera—Japan’s oldest Buddhist temple—and mysterious megalithic tombs like the famous Ishibutai Mounded Tomb.
Asuka is the only municipality in Japan where the entire administrative area is protected as a Special Historic Landscape Conservation Area under the "Asuka Act*." This deep commitment to preservation has kept its timeless scenery intact, culminating in its proud recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site under "Ancient Capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara" in July, 2026.
*Asuka Act: Also known by the official name "Act on Special Measures for the Preservation of Historic Features and Improvement of Living Environment in Asuka Village." Strict building and development regulations are imposed throughout the village, requiring regional development that preserves the landscape.
HOSHINOYA Asuka’s Concept: A Sanctuary of Stillness at Japan’s Origin
About 1,400 years ago, Asuka Village possessed a vibrant history as Japan's first full-scale capital. Today, it is a place where rich nature and tranquil time flow seamlessly. In this land woven together by rich natural surroundings, traces of the ancient imperial capital, and its stillness, we offer a unique experience that allows guests to liberate body and mind while enveloped in layered history and the sound of the wind, creating space in the mind.
Features of HOSHINOYA Asuka
1. "Terraced Garden" Expressing the Beauty of Asuka Village's Rice Terraces in Its Landscape
The garden sprawling at the heart of the grounds is designed after the terraced rice fields of Asuka Village. Incorporating not only rice paddies but also lawns, crop fields, meadows, and walking paths, it is a colorful garden that displays different expressions with each changing season. Guests can also enjoy this scenery from the large windows of their guest rooms. Gazebos are scattered throughout the garden, creating special front-row seats where guests can spend time as they please while sensing the nature of Asuka Village.

2. Luxurious Guest Rooms Designed in Single-Story Layouts Reflecting Scenes of Tiles and Stones Blending into the Scenery of Asuka Village
Offering a deep connection to the atmosphere of Asuka Village throughout, all 35 guest rooms are single-story detached all-suite accommodations. Available in four room types, the spacious rooms range from approximately 70 m² to 260 m² and feature impressive high ceilings up to roughly 4 meters. The design blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape of Asuka Village by incorporating interiors inspired by local stone monuments as well as tiled roofs reflecting the residential areas and temples protected under the "Asuka Act." Additionally, the Akane rooms (approx. 105 m² to 107 m²) feature a "stone-chamber bath"—a space imbued with a sense of refined weight and presence, with stone lining an entire wall.

HOSHINOYA Asuka’s Logo
The logo of HOSHINOYA Asuka incorporates the design of "Yamato Tachibana" (citrus tachibana), which is said to be Japan's oldest citrus fruit and appears in ancient chronicles such as the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters) and Nihon Shoki (The Chronicles of Japan). It has long been cherished as a symbol of eternal youth, longevity, and good fortune.

The 10-Year Journey of Asuka Village and Hoshino Resorts
While urban development across the entire Asuka Village is restricted by the Asuka Act, Hoshino Resorts and Asuka Village have deepened their collaboration over the past decade through the signing of agreements and personnel exchanges. By mutual understanding of each other's environments and uncovering the region's inherent appeal, both parties are working together in preparation to create a accommodation facility rooted in the community.
