Approximately 200 Somei Yoshino cherry trees line the banks of the Shinkawa River, which flows east-west through Tsuchiura City, creating a 2km-long row of cherry trees. The water bicycles offer excellent stability even in waves and wind, allowing for a comfortable water cycling experience. With a cruising speed of about 10km/h, you can slowly make your way through the tunnel of cherry blossoms. Furthermore, just like a regular bicycle, you can change direction by turning the handlebars, allowing you to smoothly navigate the water.
The Shinkawa River runs east to west through Tsuchiura City. About 200 Yoshino cherry trees line both banks, spanning a distance of around 2 km. The branches spread wide from both riverbanks, creating arches of cherry blossoms reflecting on the river’s surface. Immerse yourself in this all-cherry-blossom scenery. Unlike conventional cherry blossom viewing, there are no other people on the river, meaning you will have the cherry blossoms up close all to yourself.
Sweets are indispensable to cherry blossom viewing. To maximize your experience, we also offer cherry blossom mochi from Shichino, a Japanese sweets store in Tsuchiura that has been in business for 70 years, beloved by many locals. Snack on the bite-sized mochi while watching the cherry blossoms on the water. Enjoy it with Sashima tea, a tea notable for its rich aroma and full flavor, mainly produced on the Sarushima plateau in Ibaraki.
