A resort that invites you to live as the islanders do and keep their traditions alive
Taketomi Island is a small remote island with a circumference of approximately 9 km, formed by the uplift of coral reefs. Despite its lack of mountains and rivers and its challenging natural conditions, such as damage caused by typhoons, the island's inhabitants overcome these difficulties with the spirit of "Utsugumi" (mutual cooperation), and live their lives amidst its unique culture and natural environment.
The legend of six mountains
Taketomi Island has a legend called the "Muuyama (Six Mountains)", which tells of inviting six gods at the beginning of the village. Based on the teaching of living in peace through cooperation and avoiding conflict, there exists a spirit of "Utsugumi".
Living by the Taketomi Island Charter
Taketomi Island has established the Taketomi Island Charter with five basic principles: "Don't sell, don't smudge, don't mess, don't break, keep it alive" in order to protect precious culture and nature and make the most of it for residents.
Inherit the spirit of "Utsugumi"
In order to carry on the history of overcoming the difficult location environment with the spirit of "Utsugumi", HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island respects the island's traditional culture in harmony with the rules of life.
