Farming according to the position of the "Pleiades"
At the heart of Taketomi Island lies "Hoshimi-ishi" (Star Viewing Stone). Those stones in the Yaeyama Islands have guided farmers who would gaze at the position of the Pleiades from the stone to determine the perfect moments for planting and harvesting their rice.
