Where the Milky Way fills the sky to the horizon
The Yaeyama Islands are not affected by westerlies or southern trade winds, and the clear air makes them ideal for observing the starry sky. They are renowned as having the best stargazing conditions in Japan, where you can observe 84 of the 88 constellations in the sky.
"Tingara(Milky way)"
On the remote island, without streetlights or city lights, you can gaze upon a sky adorned with countless stars, the Milky Way, the Southern Cross, and shooting stars, creating unforgettable memories. Additionally, you can witness all 21 first-class stars overnight.
Farming according to the position of the "Pleiades"
At the heart of Taketomi Island lies "Hoshimi-ishi" (Star Viewing Stone). Those stones in the Yaeyama Islands have guided farmers who would gaze at the position of the Pleiades from the stone to determine the perfect moments for planting and harvesting their rice.
To gaze at the stars
Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park, including Taketomi Island, has been designated "International Dark Sky Places." To fully enjoy this beautiful starry sky, HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island has no strong outdoor lights.
