Iriomote Island is recognized as an "area important for biodiversity", which is represented by internationally rare endemic species, and is registered as a World Natural Heritage site on July 26, 2021, alongside with Amami Oshima Island, Tokunoshima Island, and the northern part of Okinawa Island. Iriomote Island has different landscapes such as jungles, rivers and mangrove forests. In addition, various rare endemic species and endangered species that have undergone a unique evolutionary process reflects the formation of the island. Our presenter will talk about the nature of Iriomote Island, and you can learn why Iriomote's biodiversity should be protected as a World Natural Heritage site.
