A magical light show in the snow

Exclusively designed for KAI Okuhida, the lights were inspired by the area's landscape and culture and are sure to enhance the beauty of the ryokan's winter scene. Named Hidatama, or "Hida globe," each light consists of a spherical light bulb with a conical shade on top—the latter an homage to the nearby mountains, as well as the sloped thatched roofs that were once prevalent in Japan's snow country.

We offer a special seating area designed for intimate conversation, bathed in the soft glow of "Hida-dama" lanterns. Each hut features a roof inspired by traditional Gassho-zukuri architecture. Inside, you will find a cozy "Kotatsu" (heated table) surrounded by intricate "Chidori-goushi" lattice woodwork, a craft unique to the Hida region. The interior stays a soothing 5℃ warmer than the crisp winter air, creating a serene sanctuary.From your private seat, gaze out at the steaming hot spring river and the dancing lights of the lanterns. It is the perfect harmony of snowy landscapes and Japanese tradition.

Enjoy local beverages and snacks from the comfort of your exclusive seat inside the "Kamakura" (snow hut). Our featured drink is "Hot Whis-tea," a blend of Hida Takayama Distillery’s whisky and "Hida Black Tea," which is uniquely fermented using the natural steam of Okuhida Onsen-go. The soothing aroma of warm tea and whisky will warm you to your core. For a snack, please try the "Hida Dagashi" from Otowado, a beloved traditional confectionery in Hida-Takayama.
