Chill out near the sea at our spring “Beach Art Days” event – Hoshino Resorts BANTA CAFE

Experience the seaside nature and the trendiest art of Okinawa at one of Japan's largest marine cafes

Hoshino Resorts BANTA CAFE, an oceanic cafe with a stunning view, will host "Beach Art Days" from March 16th to May 12th, 2024, where guests can relax by the seaside in a spring filled with colorful art. During the event, guests can enjoy installation works in harmony with the ambiance of the BANTA CAFE. Those installations take advantage of the features of the facility that stretches from the cliff top to the beach. In addition, there will be unique experiences, such as live painting and workshops where guests can experience traditional Okinawan "Bingata" (traditional dyeing technique). Springtime in Okinawa, the gentle sunlight makes it perfect for spending time outdoors. Chill out in the cafe and enjoy the seaside in spring while experiencing the latest art in Okinawa.

Background
The BANTA CAFE stretches from the top of the cliff to the beach along the cove, and it faces the rich and beautiful sea where coral is growing; it is located in a unique area that takes advantage of the natural landscape. The event will bring together artists representing the future of Okinawan culture to showcase the BANTA CAFE's scenery, space, and art installations. The event started in 2021 as the "Seaside Art Festival," intending to make people aware of the works of artists whose inspirations are nurtured by the Okinawan climate and inviting them to chill at the cafe on the beach in spring, when the sunlight is soft, and the weather is pleasant. For its fourth edition in 2024, the event's name will be changed to "Beach Art Days" to reflect better the artist's idea to "incorporate art into your lifestyle and make art feel familiar." We improved the exhibition by making use of the landscape, and you will be able to enjoy some time at the cafe while appreciating the seaside environment and surrounding art at any time of the day.

1. Art immersion at our permanent exhibition
"Tinkaji Terrace," where art flutters in the sea breeze
The "Seaside Terrace," in the pavilion on the walking path leading from the cliff top to the beach, will change during the event to "Tinkaji* Terrace," a space where art flutters in the sea breeze. Pieces of art printed on textiles will be used as a decorative canopy, as well as covers for the large cushions. Each of the five spaces inside the pavilion will reflect the works of a different artist. Guests can spend some relaxing cafe time in the space of their choice and immerse themselves in the artist world.
*"Tinkaji" is a name created by combining the Okinawan words "Tin (sky)" and "Kaji (wind)."

"Amakuma Gallery," where you can find art here and there
BANTA CAFE is one of the largest sea cafes in Japan. The Amakuma* Gallery displays artists' work in locations they pick themselves, making use of the features of the landscape. You can view valuable original works at the Olu Grill, a grilling restaurant on the hill. At the Gorogoro Lounge, works are displayed by a large window, and you can sit on a sofa and admire artworks in harmony with the cobalt blue sea, sky, and sunset. We also have displayed artworks on walking paths and rocky areas, and different art installations blending in the landscape all around the facility.
*"Amakuma" is an Okinawan word meaning everywhere.

2.Get closer to art, meet and talk to the artists at our special exhibition
Live Painting at the beach with the beautiful sea and sky of Okinawa in the background
This event brings together artists related to Okinawa, and it is an enriching experience not only to watch the artworks but also to meet artists. In the live painting event held on the beach in front of the BANTA CAFE, you can experience the intense artworks being painted one after another from up close, and hear directly from the artist about the meaning and thoughts enclosed in it.
