1 September 2026 – HOSHINOYA Tokyo in Japan has been named No.85 in the extended 51-100 list of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026, revealed today by 50 Best.
Following its introduction in 2025, the second edition of this extended list features fifty more industry-defining hotels from six continents. New for 2026, the voting window has been extended to three years, enabling consideration of more hotels; those that voters may not visit so frequently but remain memorable.
The World’s 50 Best Hotels extended 51-100 list was curated by The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy - a global panel of more than 800 independent experts, each selected for their insight into the international hotel landscape.

HOSHINOYA Tokyo is a "tower of ryokan" in the heart of Tokyo. Standing 17 floors high, each floor of six-rooms represents an intimate ryokan, stacked to lead up to a natural onsen on the top floor. Guests remove their shoes upon entry to experience the essence of traditional living—with tatami, shoji, and natural wood furnishings blended with modern comfort—all enriched by seasonal decorations, cultural activities, and authentic omotenashi hospitality.
Faye Huggett, Director of Community for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, says: “The 51–100 list recognizes fifty more exceptional hotels that represent the very best of global hospitality. This extended list broadens the spotlight on a remarkable community of properties and the passionate people who bring them to life - each one defining what great hospitality means today. Every hotel here has earned its place through our expert Academy’s votes, and we hope their achievements will go on to inspire future travels.
Masanori Ikegami, General manager of HOSHINOYA Tokyo, says: “We are deeply honored to be included in The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 extended list. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our guests from around the globe whose continued support makes this recognition possible. Situated in the heart of Tokyo’s Otemachi district, HOSHINOYA Tokyo blends traditional Japanese hospitality—omotenashi—and ryokan culture with modern comfort. We view this prestigious award as validation of our ongoing commitment to bringing the true essence and value of the traditional Japanese ryokan to an international audience. Moving forward, our entire team remains dedicated to sharing the richness of Japanese culture with the world, continuously evolving to deliver truly exceptional and unforgettable experiences for every guest.”
The awarded establishments will be recognized at the fourth edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels awards ceremony in Paris on 15 September at Les Salles du Carrousel. It’s a pivotal date in the global travel and hospitality calendar that will inspire consumers, travelers and hoteliers around the globe.
