Background
Many people’s perspectives on spending time alone have changed since the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a rise in the value placed on solo time. According to the "Solo Consciousness & Behavior Survey," about 56% of respondents stated they prefer spending time alone rather than with others (*1). As the solo travel market continues to grow, HOSHINOYA believes solo travelers, free from the need to consider companions or time constraints, can enjoy a truly personal and fulfilling trip. Therefore, special plans have been created for solo travelers to fully experience the unique cultures and regions offered by each property.

HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island (Taketomi Island, Okinawa Prefecture)
"A Peaceful Solo Stay for Deep Sleep on a Remote Island"
A survey of travelers found that half of them expressed a desire for a trip focused on achieving deep sleep, highlighting a growing demand for sleep-focused travel experiences. To attain the deep rest that busy daily lives often prevent, HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island offers the perfect environment. Here, you can enjoy traditional "neebui" grass (sleep grass), listen to the soothing sounds of waves, gaze at the starry sky, and immerse yourself in nature with all five senses. This 3-day, 2-night program helps restore a balanced rhythm of life, which is often disrupted by the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It offers a chance to fully embrace the rhythm of the island and enjoy restful sleep, particularly designed for solo travelers.

Feature 1: Breakfast with Tofu for a Comfortable Night’s Sleep
On the second day, breakfast includes "Island Tofu Hot Pot" made with local vegetables and tofu. Tofu is known for containing ingredients that aid in the production of hormones that support sleep. Since hormone production takes time, this hot pot is served for breakfast to support your body’s natural sleep cycle. Additionally, adding ginger and Piyashi (island pepper) helps prevent the cold, which can interfere with good sleep, allowing for a deeper night’s rest. During a busy routine, this is a rare opportunity to savor a leisurely breakfast, enjoying the tranquil pace of your holiday.

Feature 2: Relax and Unwind with Island Time
On the second day, experience a slow pace as you visit a garden where you can learn about Taketomi Island's "nuchigusā" (*2) and other traditional crops. You will be able to hear from staff members about the island's culture and history, without needing to worry about others, allowing for a peaceful time to connect with nature. After a leisurely lunch with "neebui tea" made from the sleep grass, enjoy a nap in the chair hammock provided in your room. Let yourself relax and enjoy the slow island time, indulging in a peaceful midday nap.
*2: "Nuchigusā" refers to herbs and medicinal plants that were used by islanders to maintain health when there were no doctors on Taketomi Island.

Feature 3: Deep Breathing to Restore Life Rhythm
In the morning, engage in a deep breathing and stretching exercise called "Yonnaa (slowly) Breathing" at Aiyaruhama Beach, just 5 minutes from HOSHINOYA Taketomi Island. This exercise, which involves breathing deeply while stretching in the morning sun, helps to wake up your body and promote relaxation. By gently tiring the body, it encourages a deeper, more restful sleep at night. In the evening, practice "Tinnuu (heavenly) Breathing" by the poolside while stargazing. This exercise, a combination of slow stretching and deep breathing, helps calm the mind and body, preparing you for a restful night’s sleep.

HOSHINOYA Tokyo: Mindful Solo Onsen Stay for a One-Night, Two-Day Escape

In recent years, the demand for solo travel has been on the rise, with hot springs ranking highly as one of the main reasons for such trips. Mindfulness, which has gained attention for its ability to reduce stress, is also becoming increasingly popular. This practice focuses on "being in the present moment, without attachment, simply feeling what is," making it a perfect match for a peaceful retreat. Against the backdrop of the bustling city of Tokyo, we offer a special one-night, two-day solo onsen experience, where guests can unwind and fully enjoy the serenity of a traditional Japanese ryokan.

Feature 1: Relish the Ocean-Sourced Onsen in Solitude
The "Otemachi Onsen" at HOSHINOYA Tokyo is a natural hot spring that contains rich minerals from ancient seawater. The spring water, flowing up from deep underground, soothes both body and mind, providing a profound sense of relaxation. The indoor bath, designed like a cave, leads to an open-air bath where guests can enjoy the changing views of the Tokyo sky, experiencing the present moment. The onsen is available from check-in to 30 minutes before check-out, allowing guests to make the most of their stay, even during a short two-day visit in the heart of the city.

Feature 2: Refresh Body and Mind with "Sky Morning Training" at 160 Meters Above Ground
Once home to samurai estates, the Otemachi area is now a business district filled with towering skyscrapers. This activity takes place on the rooftop of a nearby high-rise building, 160 meters above ground. With no obstructing buildings or fences, guests can gaze out over the dense cityscape, with iconic landmarks such as Tokyo Skytree and Tokyo Tower visible in the distance. This invigorating morning training in the fresh air allows participants to face themselves and their surroundings from a unique perspective, providing a refreshing start to the day.

Feature 3: Balance Your Inner Self with the "Awakening Breakfast"
This traditional Japanese breakfast uses seasonal ingredients and emphasizes balance in both flavor and color, following the principles of the five tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, spicy) and five colors (red, yellow, green, white, black), as well as five cooking methods (raw, boiled, grilled, steamed, and fried). The breakfast is served in lacquered bowls, crafted by skilled artisans, engaging all the senses and gently awakening both the body and mind. It's the perfect start to a mindful day.
