KAI Kusatsu, where you can enjoy two different hot spring sources
Kusatsu is home to several hot springs known for their skin-cleansing properties, two of which feed the ryokan's baths—including an outdoor bath decorated with stunning rock formations.
For those who wish to enjoy more onsen
West Riverside open-air bath
West Riverside open-air bath, fed by the Mandaikō source spring, is a massive, expansive outdoor bath. Guests can enjoy bathing while gazing out at the vast nature of Kusatsu in this incredibly open setting.
Otaki no Yu
Otaki no Yu is supplied by the Nikawa source spring, famed as a "hot spring for beauty."
Here, you can experience Awase-yu, a traditional bathing method. By gradually moving from the cooler baths to the warmer ones, you will warm your body to the very core.
Goza no Yu
Goza no Yu draws water from two source springs: the Yubatake and the Manzaikō springs. Characterized by its unique tontontbuki (shingle) roof and white plaster walls, this bathhouse offers a serene space where you can gently enjoy the onsen experience alongside culture and history.
Jizou no yu
Jizou no yu is a local public bathhouse supplied by the Jizo source spring, where you can enjoy an authentic communal onsen experience. In the surrounding Ura-Kusatsu area, you can easily enjoy hot springs through various options like foot baths, hand baths, and face baths.
Shirahata no yu
Shirahata no yu, the largest public bathhouse in Kusatsu Onsen, is supplied by the Shirata source spring.
Here, you can enjoy the pure spring water, rich with yunohana (hot spring mineral deposits).

hot spring town
Lined with shops selling Manju and local souvenirs, it's the perfect place to stroll, enjoy local snacks, and shop for gifts while wearing your yukata.
Ura Kusatsu
Ura Kusatsu is a currently trending spot located about a 5-minute walk from the Yubatake. Unlike the hustle and bustle of the Yubatake, this area offers a different, calmer atmosphere, allowing you to stroll through the onsen town at a relaxing pace.
Venture a little further
Onioshidashi park
Just a 30-minute drive from the onsen town, this spot is often called the "Art of Lava."
Here, you can enjoy the magnificent scenery created by lava flows from the eruption of Mount Asama, along with seasonal alpine plants.
Karuizawa
Karuizawa and Kusatsu are located about an hour apart by car.
The gentle spring water of Karuizawa makes it the perfect agari-yu (final rinse bath) after the highly acidic waters of Kusatsu.
Choice of Meals
At KAI Kusatsu, you can enjoy not only kaiseki dining but also the adjacent Soba Kappo restaurant, accessible via the tunnel. With many more eateries in the Kusatsu Onsen town, a two-night stay offers the chance to savor diverse culinary experiences.
Seasonal Dinner
Dinners begin with a rillette of boar and runner-bean miso. The main is chicken thighs cooked in a nutrient-rich broth until it is soft enough to fall off the bone, followed by an invigorating congee prepared in the soup with tangy black vinegar.
For those who wish to explore dining beyond Kaiseki
