Ubud is often regarded as the heart of Bali's art and culture, a region where its distinctive cultural heritage remains profoundly vibrant. An indispensable element of Balinese culture is the regional community known as 'Banjar'.

What is Banjar?

Banjar refers to the community subdivided within a village (Desa). It collaboratively conducts various events such as weddings, household celebrations, Balinese Hindu rituals, and funerals, supporting one another throughout these ceremonies.

Diverse Temples in Banjar

Distinctive temples engaged in special festivals such as Galungan and Nyepi, temples associated with markets and trade, temples linked with the local Royal Family, warrior temples, and temples conducting burial ceremonies, each with its own unique features, exist in this region.

Residential Dwellings in Bali

Within enclosed grounds surrounded by walls, various living spaces for one's own family, parents, siblings' families, as well as house temples, kitchens, areas for ceremonies, and places designated for storing rice are arranged according to specific rules following the cardinal directions.
