A land that reverberates with the music of the Atayal people
Approximately 3,600 members of the Atayal tribe reside in Guguan. HOSHINOYA Guguan embraces, protects, and conveys their culture.
Traces of Pine Resin
The grounds of HOSHINOYA Guguan were once hunting and play areas for the Atayal tribe. The pines on the property still bear marks from where they once collected resin for fuel.
The Sound that Conveys the Heart
For the Atayal tribe, the mouth harp is a vital means of communication. It was used to alert others of enemy invasions, to call upon the spirits of ancestors in nature, and also in festivals, weddings, and to express words of love.
Experiencing the Culture
At HOSHINOYA Guguan, guests can learn about the Atayal tribe's lifestyle, beliefs, and philosophy. They can also partake in hands-on experiences such as making and playing the mouth harp (koukin), as well as weaving activities.
