Since the Heian period, boating has been held in Arashiyama to admire the scenery of the four seasons while enjoying poetry and orchestral music. In HOSHINOYA Kyoto, we offer elegant experiences like those depicted in classical paintings.
The boat like no other in the world
In 2019, 10 years after its opening, HOSHINOYA Kyoto embarked on the construction of its exclusive Japanese houseboat the "Hisui"(the meaning of 'jade' in Japanese). Operations began in September 2020. The boat's name comes from the color of the Oi River's water surface.
To blend in with the beauty of Rankyo Gorge.
To harmonize the scenery of the gorge, we utilized building materials and decorations that have been popular in Kyoto for a long time. Glossy-skinned Kitayama cedar and cypress wood were used for the boat frame, incorporating copper patina ornaments throughout.
Special gimmick
The roof is fitted with special glass that can be switched from white to transparent. This window offers magnificent views of Arashiyama, which differ between the upper and lower reaches of the valley.
