Autumn on Taketomi Island
As the northerly winds begin to blow, heralding the arrival of autumn on the island, Taketomi Island reveals its most profound and rich expressions of the year. We invite you to indulge in a truly special stay unique to this season, featuring music only experienced during festivals, an exquisite breakfast, and a farming culture rooted in the island's unique calendar.
An Island Alive with Festivals
"To live on Taketomi Island" is to offer prayers to the gods. Even now, 22 annual festivals are held, with prayers for the island's future. On Taketomi Island's infertile land, formed by coral uplift, crops are difficult to grow, leading to a deeply rooted culture of praying for abundant harvests. Autumn, in particular, is a crucial season for sowing seeds and wishing for a good harvest, hosting the most festivals. Various events are held according to Taketomi Island's unique calendar, including the island's largest festival.
