Itinerary
Day 1
Akiu Hot Spring has a long history with Japanese nobility. The 6th-century emperor Kinmei was healed of a skin disease by dipping in the waters of Akiu, and the daimyo Date Masamune built a private bath here.
The entrance is right in front of KAI Akiu-mae bus station.
At KAI, we offer “KAI Hot Spring Healing,” an authentic hot spring cure experience based on the efficacy and quality of the water at the hot springs.
Take a time to relax with with a drink in your room. Now, change your clothes into our original Samue.
On several occasions, our "Yumori of KAI" -Hot Spring Concierge- at KAI will explain the history of the hot spring as well as its spring qualities and effective ways to bathe.
Wrap your bathing kit in a Furoshiki, a traditional wrapping cloth, and off to the hot springs.
Cool off after a dip in the baths with a refreshing ice pop while lounging in a room designed with river-blue and wood-brown tones to symbolically represent the river that runs by the premises.
A kaiseki meal prepared with plenty of seasonal ingredients is served to you on a lacquer standing tray, in homage to the way meals were once set for daimyos.
This activity offers the opportunity to enjoy sake the way the local daimyo once did in an elegant banquet room with one wall decorated in the style of the daimyo's war flag: a golden circle on a navy background. Guests learn how to instill camaraderie in one another through the acts of serving and consuming locally brewed sake.
Ginger tea with black vinegar and brown sugar relieves your fatigue and regulates your body temperature. It gradually prepares your body and mind for a relaxing and peaceful sleep.
A soft, cloud-like mattress provides you the most comfortable sleep while supporting your body at its core. Smooth sheets and pillowcases invite you to heavenly sleep.
Day 2
Make your way to the lounge to wake your body through gentle exercise while enjoying the refreshing morning breeze.
At KAI, we offer a “Local Breakfast” using ingredients and cooking methods that reflect the local culture.
Try walking with large strides while consciously “inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth.” A course map is available with routes that you can walk lightly for about an hour.
Look closely at the walls of the indoor baths, and you'll find tiny ceramic dolls embedded in them.
Relax in a room carpeted in naturalistic green that overlooks the seasonal colors that spread far and wide through the river valley just outside.
With our inn as a base, explore nearby spots such as Rairaikyo Gorge and Akiu Otaki Falls.
The lounge is graced with the burbling of water and gentle winds carried from the river just outside. Here, you can leave behind the daily hustle and bustle.
Relaxing your body in the evening helps with digestion for dinner.
Feast yourself on a special kaiseki meal that includes uni, the edible part of a sea urchin, wrapped in slices of beef and then dipped in a boiling broth.
Try our breathing techniques to enhance the effects of the hot spring or enjoy the local beverages after bathing.
Day 3
Breathe in the brisk morning air while keeping warm in the foot bath for a refreshing start to the day.
Off to the dining area to satisfy your stomach.
We offer delicious coffee along with books and stories about the history, culture, nature, and crafts of the area.
Our shop has a wide selection of local treats and folk crafts for you to take home.
The check-out is until noon. When you leave the inn, you are refreshed and fully charged.
