Golden Repair Workshop to protect important plates

Golden Repair

A traditional Japanese restoration technique in which damaged parts of ceramics are glued together with lacquer and decorated with gold or other metal powder.

About the Workshop

At Golden Repair Workshop, located inside hot spring Ryokan, the vessels are restored using a full-scale method that uses natural lacquer without synthetic resin.

Full-Scale Golden Repair Activities

A full-fledged Golden Repair is a dogged process that takes at least a month to complete a vessel. At KAI Kaga, which insists on a marriage between a vessel and a dish, the vessel is treated as if it were a treasure, and restoration activities are carried out daily.
