KAI Cultural Discovery

Every KAI establishment offers a selection of free activities designed to introduce guests to Japan’s regional cultures.

Winter Cultural Discovery

The Ainu like to bring a plant called “Ikema” to their bodies as a charm to ward off evil. In this workshop, you will learn how to make your own accessory to ward off evil by combining this Ikema and several types of herbs from Hokkaido. This winter, you can also enjoy the Kotan village evening fire gathering. While sipping Kamui Tonoto, a traditional alcoholic beverage, you can think about Ainu culture and the spirituality of the Ainu people.
