Attractions of Yosakoi Festiva

The Yosakoi Festival began in 1954 in Kochi City as part of postwar reconstruction efforts.

Every year from August 9 to 12, the city is filled with the spirit of Yosakoi—colorful costumes, energetic dancing, and the sound of naruko clappers.

Point 1. Dance

The stars of the Yosakoi Festival are the dancers. Their dynamic and energetic performances captivate the audience. Enjoy the stunning harmony of intricate choreography and rhythmic music.

Point 2. Costume

The dancers’ costumes range from traditional styles to vibrant, freely designed outfits. With their colorful attire, they bring vivid flair to the Yosakoi Festival.

Point 3. Music

The music of the Yosakoi Festival is not bound by tradition—it features diverse, free-spirited tunes that drive the dancers' performances and elevate the festive atmosphere. From the leading jikatasya (music trucks), loud music blasts through the streets, wrapping the venue in an electrifying, carnival-like energy.

Yosakoi Rakuen LIVE

"Yosakoi Rakuen LIVE" was created from a desire to share the energy of the Yosakoi Festival and the spirit of Kochi’s hospitality.

It is an original production by OMO7 Kochi, in collaboration with three leading creators from Kochi’s Yosakoi scene.

Yosakoi Bushi

Yosakoi Rakuen LIVE begins with a traditional Japanese dance performed to "Yosakoi Bushi," a folk song from Kochi said to be the origin of the Yosakoi Naruko Dance. A single dancer stands on a dimly lit stage, illuminated by spotlight, delivering a graceful and elegant performance.

OMO7 Kochi Original Dance

The music was composed by Ippei Tsutsumi, a leading figure in Kochi's Yosakoi music scene, and features energetic, lively rhythms interwoven with lyrics that evoke the charm of Kochi.

Costume/Flag

The costumes are based on a vivid orange color inspired by the tropical atmosphere of Kochi, with blue sashes representing the Shimanto River and the sea. The furafu banner depicts a night sky glittering with stars under the moonlight, along with whales swimming in the ocean off Kochi, joyfully immersed in the festive spirit.

Yosakoi Naruko Dance Lecture

In true Kochi style, everyone in the audience joins in the fun. Let’s enjoy the Yosakoi Naruko Dance together—dancers and spectators as one.

Being able to see Yosakoi every day at OMO7 Kochi truly brings me joy. If the Yosakoi at OMO7 Kochi can become a source of energy that makes people say, “I’m so glad I took this trip,” then nothing would make me happier.

This music was created with heartfelt intention, so that guests can experience Yosakoi at OMO7 Kochi and be inspired to return for the full-scale summer Yosakoi Festival.
