OMO7 Yokohama Exterior Rendering
OMO, a city tourism hotel brand, will open OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts (hereinafter OMO7 Yokohama) in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, in the spring of 2026. The hotel is part of a development project called "BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai (Yokohama City Former City Hall Block Utilization Project)," which utilizes the former Yokohama City Hall site in front of JR Kannai Station. The former Yokohama City Hall, designed by Togo Murano, a leading architect of the Showa era who supported Japan's modern architecture, will be utilized as a "legacy hotel." The hotel's design partially incorporates or reinterprets the design of the former Yokohama City Hall. Reservations will begin on the official website in October 2025.
About "BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai"
BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai is a large-scale mixed-use (*1) project being developed by eight companies, with Mitsui Fudosan as the representative company, on the site of the former Yokohama City Hall in front of JR "Kannai" Station. Characterized by a "fusion of old and new," the project aims to preserve and utilize the former City Hall administrative building to inherit Yokohama's culture and create a dignified cityscape, while also establishing a hub for entertainment and innovation that symbolizes the next generation of Yokohama.BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai Rendering

About the Former Yokohama City Hall
The former Yokohama City Hall was completed in 1959 (Showa 34) as a commemorative project for the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Port of Yokohama and supported Yokohama's municipal administration for over 60 years. The administrative building was designed by Togo Murano, a leading architect of the Showa era who supported Japan's modern architecture. Many citizens gathered at the final public viewing of the former City Hall in December 2020, expressing their regret at its closure (*2).

Former Yokohama City Hall Administrative Building
About "Legacy Hotel"
To preserve the familiar cityscape of the former City Hall, we have chosen the theme of a "legacy hotel," which involves retaining the administrative building in its current location and utilizing it as a hotel that generates tourism and vibrancy. We will preserve as much of the building's design as possible, and for parts that must be demolished due to deterioration, we will reinterpret them to create a design suitable for a new hotel, rather than simply copying the old. Our aim is to create a hotel that inherits the memories and scenery that symbolize the history of Yokohama's development.
Examples of Directly Inheriting the Design of the Former City Hall
Inside the former City Hall, there is a Taizan tile art piece (titled "Sea, Waves, Ship") by Shindo Tsuji, a sculptor who had connections with Mr. Murano. This will be retained as a wall feature in the café after renovation. Additionally, Mr. Murano is said to have displayed rich expression in the design of stair railings, earning him the reputation of being a "master of handrails" (*3). The grand staircase used in the former City Hall's civic hall will be relocated and reconstructed in the hotel's atrium, and parts of its smooth curved handrails will also be reused.

Examples of Reinterpreting the Design of the Former City Hall
In the first-floor lobby, which is visible to many people, special lighting incorporating elements of the circular lighting from the former assembly hall will be installed. The way the light leaks and the materials used for the lighting will be newly designed to create an uplifting atmosphere suitable for a hotel entrance. Furthermore, the colors used in the hotel's guest rooms and public areas will be inspired by the colors of tiles, furniture, and carpets used in the former City Hall.Former Yokohama City Hall Assembly Hall

A Hotel to Rediscover "Yokohama," Where Overseas and Japanese Culture, History and Novelty Intersect
Since its opening in 1859, Yokohama has been a place where overseas and Japanese cultures have met and developed. Even today, one can feel the exotic atmosphere in Yokohama Chinatown and the Western-style buildings built from the Meiji to the Taisho periods. Another attraction is the ability to experience both the deep downtown areas that have continued since the post-war period and modern tourist spots. The Noge and Isezakicho areas are lined with long-established restaurants and bars, where locals, known as "Hamakko," still gather. On the other hand, the recently developed waterfront "Bay Area" and Yokohama Stadium are classic tourist spots visited by many people. Our hotel is located in the middle of the Noge/Isezakicho area and the Bay Area, making it the perfect base for experiencing Yokohama's diverse attractions. At our hotel, we will offer the "Go-KINJO" service to help guests enjoy their stay in Yokohama more deeply, providing "OMO Rangers," neighborhood guides who know the city inside out, and a "Go-KINJO Map" that gathers deep local attractions not found in guidebooks. Additionally, the public space "OMO Base" within the hotel will offer a playful space full of ideas to make exploring the city fun, where guests can research recommended spots before strolling, take a break during their walk, and more.
