VECTOR GLIDE
VECTOR GLIDE
VECTOR GLIDE offers a diverse lineup of skis, each crafted with precision and purpose. Even when narrowing the focus to powder-specific models for intermediate to advanced skiers, the differences in design and performance stand out. Choosing the right ski depends not only on its unique characteristics but also on the rider’s style and ability. To help navigate this selection, we sat down with VECTOR GLIDE founder Masayuki Akiba at the brand’s Demo Center, where he introduced us to some of the standout models available for test rides.
AVENTURA
Floats in Powder and Carves Like a Racer
This mid-fat ski features a 100 mm waist and comes in two lengths: 185 cm and 178 cm. Riders can choose between two core constructions—metal for added stability or a standard fiberglass option for a more forgiving flex.
With a generous rocker profile and a tapered shape toward the tail, the ski delivers effortless float from the moment the nose touches powder. The rocker design also shortens the effective edge, enhancing the maneuverability on groomers. This balance allows skiers to experience maximum flotation in deep snow while still carving precise, responsive turns on hardpack—without the sluggish feel often associated with fat skis.
Another standout feature is the extended edge engagement at the tail, which grips firmly through the end of each turn, delivering race-ski-like acceleration. This makes it an excellent choice for advanced skiers and former racers looking for power and speed in a powder-oriented ski.
For intermediate skiers and women, the standard fiberglass model offers a softer flex, making it more forgiving and easier to control. (Masayuki Akiba)
POLARVE
Designed for Pure Powder Performance
This ski takes flotation to the next level with a wider 107 mm waist. A higher-rise rocker and a more pronounced sidecut enhance its powder performance, allowing the ski to plane effortlessly to the surface. The combination of width and rocker curvature creates a natural, buoyant ride, making deep snow feel almost weightless. While this model is also available with a metal-reinforced construction, the version offered at the Demo Center features a fiberglass core. Lightweight and more forgiving, it’s an excellent choice for skiers looking to experience a powder ski for the first time. For those who want to explore the thrill of effortless float and playful turns in deep snow, this is the perfect ski to try. (Masayuki Akiba)
INTIMACY
Built for Tricks and Natural Terrain
This ski boasts a 110mm waist and a twin-rocker profile, with both the tip and tail featuring a pronounced rise. This design reduces swing weight, making turn initiation smooth and effortless while also preventing the tail from catching in the snow during landings.
Another key feature is the slightly forward mounting position of the bindings, which enhances maneuverability in powder and makes it easier to pull off tricks on natural terrain features. Thanks to its responsive handling, skiers can seamlessly blend carving and sliding turns while flowing through varied terrain. With ample flotation and a playful feel, this ski is perfect for riders who want to explore natural powder stashes and make the most of the mountain’s contours. (Masayuki Akiba)
GENIUS
VECTOR GLIDE’s Ultimate Powder Weapon
Among VECTOR GLIDE’s lineup, this is the fattest, most powerful powder ski—built to dominate even heavier, denser snow. Despite its width, it delivers exceptional flotation without compromising turn performance.
While featuring a twin-rocker profile, the rocker arc remains subtle. A more aggressive rocker lifts the nose higher but also acts as a brake, reducing speed. This model strikes the perfect balance, keeping the ski flatter against the slope to maximize both flotation and velocity, allowing for an incredibly fast and smooth ride in powder.
Another standout feature is its pin-tail design. Inspired by a snowboard of the same name, this shape transitions from a wide tip to a tapered tail, creating a neutral and balanced feel through turns. The result? Ample float, effortless carving, and intuitive handling—making it an excellent choice for tree runs and playful lines in deep snow. (Masayuki Akiba)
OMNNY
A Versatile All-Mountain Performer
This model defines the standard for all-purpose fat skis. If you’re new to wider skis, this is the ideal starting point.
Its rockered nose features a well-balanced rise from the forebody, providing both noticeable flotation in powder and reliable performance on groomed runs. Even on rough, choppy snow, it glides smoothly without feeling unstable.
With an 80mm waist, it’s slightly wider than a typical carving ski, making it a great choice for post-storm groomers and slushy spring conditions. The added width helps keep you afloat while maintaining an easy, controlled ride—truly an all-around ski that can handle anything the mountain throws your way.
NADURRA
The Ultimate Ski for Touring & Long Hikes
Among VECTOR GLIDE’s fat skis, this model stands out for its exceptionally lightweight construction. The secret? A shorter core section, reducing weight without compromising performance. This featherlight feel, combined with excellent maneuverability, makes it an ideal choice for ski touring, long hikes, and backcountry adventures. With a 115mm waist, it delivers ample flotation in powder while remaining easy to handle. A great option for skiers who want a fat ski that won’t weigh them down—perfect for both backcountry explorers and female riders looking for a light, responsive ride.
MAKE BC
With a 110 mm waist, this model offers a more streamlined version of the INTIMACY ski while maintaining its all-mountain versatility. From deep powder to groomed runs, it delivers reliable performance across a variety of conditions.
Available in sizes starting at 172 cm, it’s a great option for intermediate skiers and women looking for a well-balanced ski that provides both flotation and easy maneuverability. Whether exploring fresh snow or carving on packed slopes, this ski is designed to handle it all.
CORDOVA
The Ultimate All-Season Ski:
Precision-Engineered for Any Terrain
From groomed runs to untouched powder, from early-season hardpack to slushy spring snow—this ski is built to handle it all with just one pair. While it shares the all-mountain versatility of the OMNNY, this model features a higher-spec construction designed to meet the demands of advanced skiers. A full range of sizes ensures a perfect fit for expert riders seeking top-tier performance. This ski holds a special place in VECTOR GLIDE’s history—it was the very first model developed, originally designed for tackling the legendary terrain of Cordova, Alaska. Years of testing and refinement went into creating the ultimate one-quiver ski, capable of charging through any condition the mountain throws your way.
A Relentless Pursuit of Perfection
I never release a model unless I am completely satisfied with it. There’s no compromise—if something doesn’t meet my standards, I will go as far as redesigning the mold from scratch. Even after creating a prototype, I take it through extensive testing in various conditions, making adjustments repeatedly until the ski aligns perfectly with my vision. Only then does it become a finished product.
In the early days of VECTOR GLIDE, my focus was on crafting the ultimate high-performance ski—something that embodied my ideal of perfection. Over time, I began to feel a stronger desire to create skis that more people could enjoy. That’s why we gradually expanded our lineup, offering more size options and fine-tuning flex variations. Today, VECTOR GLIDE continues to evolve, bringing a wider range of skis to suit different riders and styles.
